Wigan Athletic has had some good times in the past against Wolves, and boy do we need to continue that trend in this 6 pointer this weekend.
Latics certainly haven’t had the results their performances deserve this season, but the table still says that we are in the relegation zone, just a point and a place above our hosts this Boxing Day.
A win is vital for both teams and the records show that historically we have a great record against the Midlands outfit, with just 1 loss in our last games against them in the league.
The visit to the DW Stadium brought us a 2-0 win and the hope we would kick on to better things, but Latics have been their own worst enemy in front of goal. After suring things up after the opening two fixtures, the defence is now looking good.
3 points would give us a bit of breathing space and might even get us out of the bottom three. But Wolves have pulled out some decent performances out of the bag lately and can’t be taken as a given especially on home turf.
Latics are hopefully going to welcome back Tom Cleverley, but it could be a match too early for Di Santo. Both Victor Moses and James McCarthy will be trying to get back in the next couple of weeks.
The referee for the game will be Mike Dean from the Wirral. He has presided over 15 Premier League games this season, including our 6-0 home hammering by Chelsea and Wolves 2-1 win over Manchester City.
He has dished out 55 yellow cards and 1 red card in those games and lets hope he is not swayed by the Molyneux crowd on Saturday.
