Latics first League home game sees newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers visit the DW Stadium on Tuesday Night.

Latics kick off their first home game of the season against newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers who took the league by storm last season, but were brought back down to earth after an opening day 2-0 home loss to West Ham United.

Latics themselves were basking in the glory of leaving the midlands after bowling Aston Villa over by the same scoreline, although Charles N’Zogbia will be hoping he will recover from his opening day knock there to give the manager the option of fielding the same team.

Latics have a good League record against Wolves winning two of their three meetings, the most recent being a 2-0 win (Ellington scored both) in the Championship as we were promoted. The other was a 5-3 hammering back in 1986 (Aspinall scored a hat trick with Walsh and Barrow the others on the score sheet for Wigan), we did draw the other game back in 1989.

Bobby’s team caused one hell of a stir on the opening day, playing Aston Villa off the park and getting a deserved 2-0 win. But this will only fuel the Latics fans desire to get to the next stage of football, an appearance in Europe and after one game the dream is suddenly alive.

The realists among us though will know to keep our feet on the ground, the season is long and so much can happen. We just have to hope that Saturday wasn’t a flash in the pan and that we are going to be the most entertained set of fans in football this season.

Wigan will want to capitalise on their first win by hopefully taking advantage of a green Wolves team, but at the same time not take their eye off the ball, as Mick McCarthy’s team didn’t get to the Premier League by being rubbish.

Ebanks-Blake if he plays was the most prolific striker, bagging 25 times in the league last year, a slight injury is keeping him calm at the moment, but it won’t stop him playing and whilst he does he is always a threat.

Wolves have gone 29 games without a win in the top flight, in fact it was a 1-0 upset at Anfield in 1984 the last time it was to happen, Ebanks-Blake wasn’t even born. Latics will no doubt try to get their three points wrapped up and then they can concentrate on Saturday’s arrival of Champions Manchester United.

The referee will be Mick Jones and the pre-match entertainment will start at 6.30 p.m., click here for the details.
