Steve Bruce brings his Sunderland team to the DW Stadium looking to do a smash and grab over Wigan Athletic. He didn’t manage to get N’Zogbia and he will be waiting on the fitness of the player he did manage to pry away from us, Titus Bramble.

Sunderland have spent a lot of money to ‘just survive’ in the Premier League, this season will see a lot of pressure piled on Steve Bruce and his players to deliver more than a mediocre season. Pressure is something that Bruce usually is OK with, but the inconsistency of his team is only matched by ours.

Latics will want to defend their Premier League unbeaten run at home against their visitors and in the process record back to back top flight wins as well win their third game in a row. Our record against the Black Cats in the Prem reads 5 wins, 2 draws and only the one loss.

Stats of course mean nothing, we above anybody know that, but Martinez really could do with another great performance under his belt, with 3 points preferably. To get more people coming to games, wins are what is needed and with 6 games out of the next seven against teams we should be competing with, points need to be gained from them.

It remains to be seen if or how much a part Charles N’Zogbia will play, it has also been confirmed that Chris Kirkland is fit again and in the squad. It is a crucial game and one which we need to do well in, Bobby has a lot of bodies to choose from and so there will be no excuses.

Given Sunderland will have a couple of doubts we hopefully should be able to build on the Spurs win…
