Double Hits of Will Grigg: Wigan Caused FA Cup Upset Against 10-man West Ham

The feeble performance of West Ham has led the depleted side of David Moyes to become the latest premier league victims of Wigan Athletic. The entire scenario came up in a Cup tie which was overshadowed by the dismissal of Arthur Masuaku early in the second half because of spitting.

But, it won’t be something perfect if the game is remembered only for that or just because the West Ham injury list is simply running into double figures. Rather, this match was a lively Wigan performance which seemed to be better than the one in which Bournemouth was dumped out in the third round.

Moyes has admitted that his side was not looking or playing like it was a premier league team and added that Wigan deserved a total victory through the opposite number, Paul Cook, who suggested that sending off had changed the entire game.

The Wigan manager has said that ‘It was definitely a massive and defining moment’. He also added that West Ham had successfully started with the second half in a lot better way but after there was a red card then the game really planned out in a very positive way for them. It would have been a different scenario if it had been an 11 v 11.

Further, Moyes didn’t disagree and also he never attempted to defend the actions of his players. He said, ‘Despicable’. He further claimed ‘It is completely unacceptable. He deserves everything that he will get, and he will certainly get something’. It seems like that Masuaku is looking for a six-match ban- just what Moyes needs when there is an injury crisis. Still, he was not the only player who disappointed his manager. Moyes said, ‘The young players didn’t seize their chances to impress and the senior players didn’t help them out’.

Moreover, only Manchester City has won more games than Wigan during this season although the home players were looking ahead to this tie due to the reason that it came without the pressure of being with an expectation to deliver. The Latics were definitely relaxed! Cook, being named his strongest sides, came out to watch proceedings with a cup of tea in his hand and before he could finish it the League One Leaders were standing in front.

Additionally, Nathan Byrne was fortunate enough to get more than enough space to run down the right wing and send over a deep cross and as because Will Grigg was still in a need to summon power and an accuracy so that he can beat Joe Hart with a header at the far post, he was able to do it with aplomb.

Lastly, Grigg could have experienced a hat-trick if he would have been quick enough in expecting an yet another juicy cross from the excellent Byrne within 10 minutes from the end which ended up running without any harm across the face of an ultimate goal. Undoubtedly, Wigan is somehow worried about losing a mass of their best players before the transfer window ends.
