I’m sure any manager we could have would go for this. If anybody deserves praise, it’s actually PAUL JEWELL, as it was he who put the wheels in motion and basically made the first changes and suggested the need for change, a few years ago.

Dave, not really sure how much credit Jewell can take for this, apart from recognising that things needed to change which, to be fair, my mother could have spotted.

And, at risk of diluting my apparent love-in with Roberto and hios arse-cheeks, I think as much if not more credit needs to go to Dave Whelan and the board and particularly the two Jacksons for actually making it happen. One of whom had to work this aorund writing the foreword for my book. Sterling effort, all round.

So, in the future when there’s an 11 aside friendly match to organise, do you think there might be an indoor pitch available?

Thinking about it, I recall about a year ago Roberto and DW going to view Stoke City’s training ground, as it is one of the best around.

Best set up I’ve ever seen is at Ajax Amsterdam. There’s a really big complex next to their stadium which caters for all ages from small kids, right up to the first team. Superb facilities, indoor ‘dome’ and all weather ‘grass like’ pitches.

You may or may not be aware that recently Latics have actually trained in SKEM! Straight up. On the new 3G pitch complex set up at Sandy Lane. There are a few different clubs coming to train on it, actually.

As STANDISH pointed out in his original post, it can only be a GOOD thing for Wigan Athletic. Gone are the days of us bringing in international players and them doing one (Pasquale Bruno) as soon as they get here because we look like a tin pot club.

Having digested the possibilities, I am truly excited about this positive development.
