You got me there – I suppose it could have been someone going to a fancy dress party who had strayed into a field containing abandoned optical level equipment.
As previously stated two and two might equal five – i am just passing on what I heard and saw. I am not trying to convince anyone so don’t turn it into a Spanish inquisition.

:)
Personally, and with no proof whatsoever, I think you’re closer to 4 than 5 with that 2+2 sum.

Do you mind telling me what the latest outfit that surveyors are wearing seeing you have seen some.
Just in case I decide to go to a “fancy dress party” dressed as one.
There’s a residents’ meeting at Wrightington Country Club on Wednesday night regarding Whelan’s plan for a 40 acre site to be used for Wigan Athletic’s first team training facilities.
Seems as though the rumours were true.
He’ll lose all the business of away teams staying at the hotel because of it, but I’m sure he’s already weighed up the pros and cons of it.
I’m just really surprised that, as Whelan was so proud of getting teams like Arsenal to stay there after he’d ditched Best Western and refurbished, that he’d go and jeopardise it again by building the training facility next door.
I can only presume he’s assessed it and come to the conclusion that an away team staying at his hotel every few weeks is not all it’s cracked up to be.
Either that or someone hasn’t researched it properly.
(This point had been relayed and will be brought up at the residents’ meeting…)
On the other hand it could appeal to other clubs even more, especially if they come to an agreement with us that they can use it for their traing on the day before or the morning of a match. Or am I missing the point?

They train before they set off for away games, and just tend to go for a walk on the morning of the game, so I doubt it.
Most teams are wary of staying anywhere that’s directly connected to an opposition club, so Whelan’s done well to get away with it so far.
Maybe the first team will start using it as a pre-match base?

That’s how I read it. Surprised you hadn’t. Was actually going to ask you about it, what with all your experience and all that (no sarcasm there)[/quote]
It did cross my mind but I discounted it.
For me, it’s obvious: better to have money coming in from elsewhere than paying in wooden dollars, and I presumed Whelan would see it that way too.
At present the first team only use Wrightington if it’s not being used by the visiting team so why would Whelan take away that revenue steam and swap it with purely money coming in from his own football club?
Doesn’t make sense, unless Martinez specified when he accepted his new contract that he wanted a permanent pre-match base for the team.
