My support of Owen Coyle may have inadvertently seen me cross over to the Lightside ! :P

He’ll be given the same support and chance as anyone esle, by me.

Can’t say I’m overwhelmed at the moment, though.

I believe in judging a manager on what he does at Wigan Athletic.

He took Bolton down, surely he should be a legend already!!!

I think it’s quite obvious he impressed Whelan. Whether that was because he’ll accept a low wage, not ask for a huge budget or because he may actually believe he can get us back up and deliver the goods.

I think Coyle himself will be delighted and he deserves our full backing. He is the manager of the currect FA Cup champions and the only team (at present) to be representing England in the Europa League next season.

For me what he did at Bolton is irrelevant in our situation. The important thing on his CV is taking Burnley out of the Championship.

People seem to be forgetting that’s where we are, and that’s what we need from a manager.

I must admit he wouldn’t have been in my first 50 choices as new manager , but he’s the one who’s got it so he’ll get my 100% backing.

As Garswood says he is proven at this level so hopefully he’s just taken the first small step towards becoming a Latics legend.

I think you have to take into account the fact he started last season in terrible fashion and he had more than enough time to put together a squad of his own players.

He now has a month and a half to put together a team capable of winning the championship, progressing through europa whilst also having a respectable campaign defending our FA CUP.

The fact Bolton had replaced Coyle with the sort of manager I would have liked to have seen in place in Dougie Freedman doesnt bode well with me.

While they are likely to go on and play an attractive style of football next season and look likely to carry on their good form we are left to wonder if Mcmanaman and Maloney will be reverted back to positions on the wing where they have both failed to impress in the past.

I dont like the stories I have heard about his easy going training sessions and lack of tactical input to players.

In summary I think this is a step backwards.

As everyone is saying, he is not my first choice but now he is Wigan Athletic manager he will get my full support.

Let’s see what happens.Stories about this and that are just stories.Winning 4 home games all season and several big score humiliations aren’t stories.Surely our league campaign can’t be any worse than under “Europes best young one ” ?……….can it ?

                Quote from Salford.

“He now has a month and a half to put together a team capable of winning the championship, progressing through europa whilst also having a respectable campaign defending our FA CUP.”

Well Salford, DW has stated that the Europa Cup is in no way a priority and also that he doesn’t expect us to go up this season but would like to within 2 seasons ! Who wins the FA Cup and then regards the following season’s competition as defending said cup ? You defend titles in sports but not cups ! I have heard sides classed as current holders but never defending champions !

Sorry Phil I don’t understand what you are asking me?

Or are you just nitpicking about my wording of having a respectable FA cup campaign?

Where has he said he doesn’t expect us to go up this season?

I as a supporter would love to win the Europa cup for obvious reasons but Whelan wants to get back in the PL for obvious reasons and rightly so.

I can sit here fantasizing where as Whelan has a job to do.

And a bloody good job he does!

                In fact, in his final season in the Premier League, Coyle did no better at Bolton that Martinez did at Wigan;

                Coyle 2011/12 18 Bolton Wanderers (R) 38 10 6 22 46 77 −31 36
                Martinez 2012/13 18 Wigan Athletic (R) 38 9 9 20 47 73 –26 36

Despite only four home wins and several big score humiliations, Roberto had the better goal difference, so I’d say he had the edge. Oh – and he won the Cup too.

But why do you keep looking for reasons to moan about Roberto? It’s time to move on.

They don’t like it up em Mr Mainwaring ! ha ha ha
Also a snippet from Guardian but DW has said the same in every interview since he employed Coyle !

“The priority is getting back to the Premier League,” added Whelan. “Europe is not the priority and while we are proud to represent England in that European league, it is not our priority. Getting back to the Premier League over two years is [the priority] and it may take that time.”

I can remember when Ray Mathias was first appointed and thinking “what the fook” the guy did’nt do a miss. Both dark and lightside please lets get behind the guy and make him realise that Wigan Athletic FC are the most amazing story ever told.

The many Bolton fans I know think he was on the verge of taking them out of the Championship too!!!!

If I could have chosen a list of managers I didn’t want to replace Bobby, Owen Coyle would have been top of it. Here’s to hoping that I’m proved wrong

Kevin Davies was on Talk Sport Friday afternoon and he said in the training sessions they worked hard and got really fit. Nothing about taking it easy.
When you look at Paul Jewell, for me he was the best manager we have ever had. When he left he did nothing at other clubs, so saying Coyle took Bolton down doesn’t mean he will poor at Wigan, he could be, But who knows.
I remember Wigan playing at Bolton and got beat 4 0 Coyle agains Bob, also we played them and they hammered us off the park and we scraped a 1 1 draw so not all is lost. Whelan is right most of the time.
