I caught the last 20 mins on the radio on my way home from work. It was 2 -0 when i tuned in, but 4, absolutely cracking start. Never predicted that.
3 August 2013 at 9:54 pm #118796hope Martinez was watching
3 August 2013 at 10:31 pm #118798Martinez reckoned that he left us in good shape when he jumped ship , yet he continues to raid our club for our best players ! If he had any respect for our club and it’s fans it’s about time he left us alone ! !
3 August 2013 at 10:44 pm #118799Coyle, the new manager, has made a good start.
Six cup winners plus five useful purchases. Well done!
3 August 2013 at 10:54 pm #118800yes but we still won we will be ok we played as a team should with spirit ,and a point to prove {well 3 ]actually.
3 August 2013 at 11:01 pm #118802Excellent start, top of the table tonight :cheer:
Looks like Holt will be the 1st choice striker…cant argue with 2 goals though.
Best ever opening day result in our league history. Seems a long time ago we lost 4-0 on the opening day to
ManUreBlackpool :sick:3 August 2013 at 11:18 pm #118804Let’s not get carried away here a 4-0 win over a poor Barnsley side lot more harder opposition to play yet
3 August 2013 at 11:47 pm #118809Looks like Holt will be the 1st choice striker…cant argue with 2 goals though.Goals came from Watson, Holt, Barnett and Maloney.
Holt just got one lucky goal. “Fellow debutant Holt, a £2m summer signing from Norwich, opened his competitive account for the Latics in fortuitous fashion, deflecting in Boyce’s effort after Watson had put the visitors ahead.”
But he did last for 75 minutes.
3 August 2013 at 11:48 pm #118810Barnsley got gud home form from last season so cant complain some people never happy

But that’s what we’ve been missing. A striker who is in there in the right place to deflect a shot in. Not all strikers’ goals are beautifully crafted.
4 August 2013 at 1:22 am #118822I shall be happy if Holt scores 25 lucky goals!
What we’ve been missing is sufficient players up the field to create chances and players in the box to convert them into goals.
We should be able to take greater control of games this season and have a greater presence in the box too. I think we’ve got the players to do both.

Wasn’t a lucky goal in my opinion. He was where a striker should be and reacted very quickly to re-direct the ball into the net with his knee. Two goals from two corners in one game; we don’t normally score from corner ball situations.
4 August 2013 at 3:00 pm #118838;) Fantastic start to the season…..gives us all hope for the year ahead x
4 August 2013 at 3:26 pm #118840Can’t complain about that. Bossed the game completely, the middle 3 ran the show.
Barnett was a rock, very impressed with him considering he only signed 2 days before the game. Perfect way to start the season.
4 August 2013 at 4:11 pm #118842Betting odds dropped from 12/1 to 9/1 to win the league off the back of that result. From 6th to 4th favourites
