Sorry to be positive on this board…but I thought Scotland was great in the first half. Held the ball up well and showed some good touches. He almost scored in the 2nd half with a great shot from outside the area but that soon gets forgotten.
Gomez looked good when he came on. Not afraid to take people on and scored a great free kick. Worth a start against Stoke with Scharner moving to defence.
For all you whingers … get lost. What do you expect. We are fighting miles above our weight in this league and I still think we will survive. If that’s not enough for you then either get a reality check or take your Johnny come lately support off to another club.
Martinez has my full support.
8 December 2009 at 2:10 am #14793you must watch a different game to me pal as Scotland was pathetic in the first half and worse in the second.
Gomez is just not good enough in a battle.
Take your martinez head off and think if he was not the legend….is he good enough for us.
Good point about fighting above our weight but we have put up a good fight so far in the big league. This is the worst premier league side we have had and you must agree with that.

Bang on that mate!! I’d forget trying to talk sense to some of these on here. The same ones probably moaned about Heskey not scoring when he played for us, then realised when he’d gone that hes probably one of the best hold up players in world football, not just the prem.
:roll:From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!8 December 2009 at 2:35 am #14800So Scotland is in the same league as Heskey????? hahahahaha
Scotland is not good enough and it does not make you a super fan for supporting him. He is poor and that is the bootom line.

Who said Scotland was in the same league as heskey? Not me!!
My point is that some fans don’t see the whole picture when judging a player. My mate once had a trial at Latics back in the 80’s. He came on as sub in the game with 20 mins left and scored 4 goals. He later got told that he would never make it due to his technical ability and other stuff that me and my mates at the time couldn’t believe.
You see thats why we are season ticket holders and martinez and co are millionaires. However, I actually do see the good points in Scotland that convince me he’s worth a longer run. From Matlock to ManU

You must have been having a pi$$ when Scotland set the Zog up with his goal and a cracking shot in the second half
8 December 2009 at 9:15 pm #14861I thought Scotland had his best game for us – he does look as though he’s improving and is certainly no Aghahowa.
And Gomez looked good too – he has some good touches.
I’m quietly confident they’ll be OK.

Easy tiger (says the cat) – there’s more ups and downs than the biggest and best – – – – – Roller Coaster watching the Mighty Latics – its taken some of our best players to find their feet – n Jason ul be just fine – better than watching predictable teams – at least we get entertainment and see gud football each week (even if Wigan only turn out and play when they feel they play a team that they have a game against) – the cat’s tired now so purr-night!!!!!! lol ;)

I do love the intellectual debate encountered on this board.
9 December 2009 at 2:16 pm #14888In my opinion, Scotland had a good first half on Saturday, and served as a decent foil for the two wide men cutting in.
That’s what he’s there to do, and why there is a left footer on the right wing and right footer on the left wing. For everyone who has been saying we need a right winger, maybe so, but he’ll still be played on the left. The whole style of play adopted by Martinez is detached from the traditional English game of the winger beating a man then putting in a cross for the big centre forward to get his head to it.
The idea is for the two wide men to feed off the target man, cut in, and be able to get shots on goal -effectively creating 4-3-3 in attack. The full backs are supposed to push forward, and cover virtually the entire touchline. Whether Melchiot is still up to this, is a matter for debate, but Martinez is allegedly looking for two new full backs in January.
I haven’t seen enough of Gomez to pass judgement on him…..in fact, I don’t even know why I’m bothering trying to explain this, as it will just be discounted as rubbish, and I’ll be accused of looking through rose tinted glasses.. 4-4-2 is the way forward. Hoof it forward. Everyone brought in this season is useless. Martinez out. Whelan spend some money etc etc.
9 December 2009 at 2:30 pm #14891well said, lad, some sense on here at last.
9 December 2009 at 8:41 pm #14912Absolutely spot on SW.
Even after Saturday when the left footed N’Zogbia cut in from the right wing to score a brilliant goal with his LEFT foot , we’ve still had folk on here saying we need a right winger and need to get Zog onto the left !!!
