Max Power
4 mins ·
This is for the Wigan fans.
Unfortunately I have been removed from the squad at this moment in time. When I 1st met with the manager in the 1st week of pre season we had a chat about the future and moving forward. The club turn down offers for me during the January transfer window from a championship club, so I stated that if offers where to come in again during this transfer window I would like to stay in the championship. I understand some fans may feel angered by this, however at this stage of my career I would like to play at as higher level as possible. During our chat i also stated that I had 2 years left on my contract and that if no offers came in during this window I would be fully committed to help the club get back into the championship. Like any player at the club will tell you, I set high standards every day in training and have always been fully committed in everything I’ve done for the club. I have been told I will not play for the club again whilst the transfer window is open. I’m disappointed this happened, however I fully respect the managers decision. He has done what he feels is best for the club and I will continue to train hard and support the club as much as I can.
My future is uncertain at this moment in time but I will act in a professional manner as always. I hope it’s a successful season for the club ending in promotion back to the championship.
Max27 July 2017 at 9:51 pm #160676Actually not sure what to say about that, other than I don’t think he should be opening his mouth on social media about club business.
Somethings going on….Bogle announced earlier in his TWITTER that he won’t be playing at Grimsby on Saturday and there were comments from Ipswich fans suggesting he was heading there. QPR mentioned too.
All I can say is, I trust Paul Cook to do what is right. Personally, I feel Power struggled at Championship level last season and League one is perhaps his level.

With the players we have (if they stay) Max Power won’t be missed too much. There is no doubting his commitment and he has always given 100%. I can understand his reasons so good luck to him, but I doubt whether he will break any pots in the Championship as he looked to struggle last season. Maybe in a better team he might do better.
Bogle will definitely be missed, but if I had to choose between him and Grigg, I would plump for Grigg anytime as he has proved himself at this level. Hopefully we will get decent fees for them both (although it will say UNDISCLOSED as always) then we can get a couple of strikers in.27 July 2017 at 11:19 pm #160680According to Wigan Today, Jack Byrne may also be on his way.
27 July 2017 at 11:23 pm #160681Looks like he’s deleted his post.
Didn’t like getting criticised I guess.
He can go as far as I’m concerned. No loyalty despite being a significant part of the mess we’re in, and Cook is doing the right thing by looking for players who want to play for us.
If Power was looking forward that’d be the first time for ages – usually it’s sideways or back.27 July 2017 at 11:24 pm #160682Funnily enough I was looking through the squad yesterday on various sites and in a couple of them Lavercombe was not named either. He is there on the official website however.
27 July 2017 at 11:28 pm #160683According to Wigan Today, Jack Byrne may also be on his way.See, this would slightly disappoint me, as I think the lad has real potential…he looked really creative for Blackburn against us, early last season.
The again, it would once again be another of Joyce’s signings shown out the door without actually playing so much, so it wouldn’t surprise me.
I think we have to be careful we don’t get TOO light weight in the squad.
27 July 2017 at 11:33 pm #160684I remember Emyr Huws saying exactly the same thing as Power following our last relegation to league one. I think Cooky is doing the right thing and to be honest, Power didn’t make the step up to the championship like I thought he would. He always gave 100% but didn’t have the same impact, doing too much sideways and backwards passing. Can’t remember him scoring but remembered him hitting row z and the corner flag a few times. He did great in league one and IMO that’s where he’s at as a player at the moment.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!27 July 2017 at 11:35 pm #160685One website is already stating Bogle has joined QPR on loan. I hope this is wrong and he is sold rather than loaned.
27 July 2017 at 11:41 pm #160686Reading between the lines its Power who seems to be pushing for a move but it doesn’t look like anybody has come in for him yet. He,s been told he won’t play again until the window shuts. That says to me he is hoping to leave so has rightly been omitted. Rather Bogle go before Will.
27 July 2017 at 11:44 pm #160687I am also guessing that someone at the club has b*****ked him for posting this on Facebook
27 July 2017 at 11:53 pm #160688Wigan Athletic selling their only assets and replacing them with mid 30’s year old free transfers…… Are any of you truly shocked? I am guessing all the hysteria of a promotion push is now ebbing away with the annual closing down sale process starting a little later this year.
27 July 2017 at 11:54 pm #160689If any player doubts this club is where they want to be then Cookie is spot on by binning them.
28 July 2017 at 12:04 am #160690Wigan Athletic are an enigma. Every year they rip the soul out and expect spectators to pay for to watch it and then say “It’s ok Latics i still love you no matter how badly you are treating me”
Its like your wife having an affair every year and saying “i forgive you as long as you don’t do it again”
28 July 2017 at 12:06 am #160691.. and players saying “I love being here”, when signing contracts, but when things happen that mean they have to put some effort in, and what they have caused doesn’t suit them then saying “well, so long and thanks for all the fish.”
