I don’t think people realise how important Saturdays game is to us in our fight to stay up.
A win puts us within 4pts of Birmingham with a game in hand all be it been West Brom.
A Brum win puts Birmingham 10 clear and safe from us.
Rotherham Cardiff Huddersfield all have very winnable games so a loss Saturday and wins for any of the above including Blackpool and I will safely predict were down.
I watched Rotherham the other night and although the game was poor they always looked a threat. I personally feel they’ll claw a few wins to stay up.Maloney has to make changes up front and approach this from a different angle because if he doesn’t we are 100% down after Saturday, if we lose.
Can we win Saturday? Of course. Birmingham ain’t down there because their playing well their in poor form but they’ll be coming here knowing a win will virtually guarantee Championship football next year.1 March 2023 at 1:06 pm #198551It’s not just changes up front required, we need to rest Power and McLean. Both are struggling at this level. Sanini looked good when he came on Saturday so did Pearce who can actually take a man on out wide and bang in a decent cross. Options are limited up front with Wyke and Magennis out injured, not sure Sze is ready but should be given a chance. Charlie Hughes took his chance with both hands, who is to say Sze won’t do the same.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!1 March 2023 at 1:35 pm #198553Agree about Sze….what have we to lose ?.We look so tame in the final 3rd that Maloney has to be open to taking chances. Wasn’t impressed with Sinani prior to Saturday but he convinced me that he’s worth his place in starting 11 along with Pearce. Fletcher really concerns me as whenever we do get a decent ball in he rarely gets anywhere near it…..for his stature he doesn’t attack the ball and a quick break has him constantly yards behind play. I firmly believe the Humphreys decision was a major mistake with both Wyke/Magennis unlikely to be involved regularly in the run in and unable to strengthen in the window. As stated we have to win Saturday then start picking up unexpected points at West Brom and Burnley .A failure Saturday and I’m afraid I can’t see a position outside the bottom 3.
1 March 2023 at 2:09 pm #198554Must win simple as!
1 March 2023 at 6:14 pm #198556I don’t think we should put too much pressure on Hughes, he was caught out Saturday with an over the top ball. All too much too soon can be a good but also a bad thing.
I don’t think McClean should be dropped just as long as Pearce plays. Sinani is a must he looks a decent player. I wouldn’t know too much about Azeez but right now these options have to me considered.
Magennis or Wyke need to get their arses sorted asap. Wyke has been a disaster and I’m not talking about his heart problem I’m on about injury after injury along with Cousins who’s another who has never been fit.
I still say that had we recalled some of those onloan Maloney would easily keep us up. I’m flabbergasted 1 or 2 weren’t recalled….utter bellend madness
1 March 2023 at 10:43 pm #198561One of the things that annoys me about Fletcher is how many times he’s caught offside. Not only does he contribute nothing, he actually hinders the side.

Hate to say “I told you so”…..
But look on the bright side – its Egg’s £20 that I’m going to be taking this season.

No need to gloat Mutty it’s something most of us already knew well before you. The reason we let Max Power go to Sunderland in the first place in 2018 was because he can’t perform consistently in the Championship .As for James McClean ,good player and more than capable at this level but his legs have ‘gone’, simple as that.
2 March 2023 at 7:14 am #198567I know Power isn’t all he’s cracked up to be but he lacks nothing effort, he needs to take off the defensive hat off and think positive.
You can keep as many clean sheets as you want but if your not scoring you will go down.
For me I’d stick Lang up front, Keane Sinani beside or behind whichever. Lang would win far more ball and free kicks being a focal point and create more problems for a back line than Fletcher who basically offers the side absolute nothing. If I see Fletcher in the starting 11 I fear for the worse and I’m afraid we will more than likely lose by the odd goal.
I hope I’m wrong but I think our defence will do its job but he wont do his. There’s more to a forwards role than chasing down defenders like a a sheep dog at trials because that’s all he can do
2 March 2023 at 8:38 pm #198574Keep hoping for the turnaround but just can’t see it despite recent improvement in form.
Can only do so much with this lot and I am afraid they had better start planning for league 1 next season because that is where we are going in my opinion.
Saturday was a golden opportunity and we didn’t take it , everybody’s whipping boy at this level and I’m expecting the same on Saturday.
Sorry to be so negative .2 March 2023 at 9:03 pm #198575It’s not been negative it’s been honest based on what we’ve seen this season.
Players thrown out on loan, 3 managers in a few months, a total lack of player investment, too many injuries, a lack of a goal scorer has destroyed this season. It’s not one thing it’s a combination of a few. Unless we have a massive turnaround I cannot see how.
4 March 2023 at 6:47 pm #198597What is there to say ? Preston,Blackburn groundhog day. Last 3rd national league standard or lower. Owners reliance on last seasons squad our undoing. Absolutely sleep inducing pass to death crap. Why the F### won’t Nyambe cross a ball ? Great opportunities then turns back every time. Maloney doing his the best to buff the turd. Then to rub salt in Cardiff, Blackpool, Rotherham all start doing impressions of Barcelona!!! Still hope but with a tiny h !!
4 March 2023 at 9:11 pm #198598Shocking first half performance , so bad that I wandered into the concourse for a beer well before the finish.
Tip tappy back and forth in our own half and as negative as you could have got and all when a goal behind.
Better second half but the fact remains we have about as much cutting edge as a polystyrene dagger and no amount of coaching or throwing teacups around is going to change that.5 March 2023 at 9:28 am #198600It was hard to figure out what we were trying to do. Everytime we got into the last third we went backwards, and every ball crossed in was easily taken by the Brum keeper.
Simple:-
Don’t cross into the 6 yard box, cross it to the pen spot make the keeper come for it not into his fcukin lap !!.
McClean made no attempt to go by anyone and when we were gaining momentum what does Maloney do?, takes off probably the best player for us Sinani. Aasgaard had a stinker but remained on the pitch.
Then were asking Nyambe to play an attacking role when he’s clearly a defender beggars belief. Rekik was brilliant coming forward so what does Mahloney do? Takes him off. It looked to me 1 point was our aim not 3 we never risk take, were belt n fcukin braces for 90 minutes. Were down and the sooner we get to grips with that the better. Just watched Rotherham they do something we don’t, shoot. The one huge fault with us is the huge fcuk off hole in the midfield. We never had a man there they were either sat deep or wide. Birmingham waltzed through freely.
It’s very rare I leave before I hear the whistle but on 89 is gone as there was more chance I got coupon up than us score.Someone said you can’t blame the manager blame the players but he made strange subs and at the wrong times.
5 March 2023 at 9:46 am #19860272% possession , 2 corners and only 3 shots on target ?
Says everything about where the problems in the team are.
Boring to watch isn’t the word and the faults in the team remain and won’t be corrected unless major changes are made. -
