I’m looking at the squad and I’m thinking, omg what a mish mash of freebies, loans and kids.
We even trialed a 34 year old Scott Hogan who scored 1 goal last season then released by a club who gained promotion to League One.
Then I’m reading we signed Trevitt with the ongoing injury he suffered with us last season and he’s not even in training, possibly weeks if not months before he’s ready.
Thats like your car blowing up and you need a car to get to work so you buy another blown car. When your so short of bodies the last thing you need is signing injured players.
Then I hear we’re signing Reggie Walsh on loan, a 17 year old. Yes he might be a top draw kid but he’s 17 alot to learn for sure.
I then watched the Caldwell & Power interviews and you can hear it in their voices the sound of worry regarding the squad.
Personally I feel Caldwell’s been sold a pig just like Maloney and even Lowe. Full of promise and hope then the rugs dragged clean from under them all when the budgets announced.
I’m worried for this season very worried. It’s simple, no depth in the squad. A few injuries and the apple cart gets flipped clean over.
Yes there’s a few weeks to go but there’s no way to trial anyone it’s based on “what if”.
And
No money.
Caldwell will have a list the length of his arm then he rings the agent, Caldwell says this is what we can pay and the phone goes down.
I just hope & pray we drop on another Taylor or even get him for a second spell
Certainly looks like a very long, hard season ahead.
Best case expectation would be (lower) mid table, but I fear we will be in the dog fight most if not all the season.
Our best hope for staying in League 1 is 4 other teams being worse than us, that’s the reality, sadly.
Tickle moving on (good luck to him BTW, he’s earned his Championship opportunity) will be our greatest loss. We would already be in League 2 without him.

Sums it up well. Plus our preparation in terms of game time in pre season has been awful. Just not enough game time for players to gel together.
Gary Caldwell has not been sold a pup. He knew exactly what he was letting himself in for when he was interviewed for the job. He told us at the world cup dinner that his budget this season would be less than last season.
Teams in league one are not full of world beaters, not even the relegated clubs. Its about getting the best out of the squad you have just like the Lincoln manager did last season.
We looked quite good for large parts of the game on Saturday, just let down by piss poor finishing. GC knows only too well that he needs to find a goalscorer, if he doesn’t then its gonna be a long season ahead.
I personally hope Adam Moseley steps up to the plate, I watched him all last season and yes it was against u21’s teams, but he has played against no nonsense centre halves when he played for Runcorn.

What a journey!This forum been dead for a while and it’s easy to see why. Have to agree with all the posts. Our only hopes are that 1 ,all these rumours about a potential change of ownership bear fruit before the window closes and the new owner has a modicum of ambition. 2 Caldwell can reproduce 70% of what Lincoln achieved last season with a small budget recruitment. I myself fear we are in for a tough bottom half season. The recruitment looks hit and hope.Still no proven goalscorer. Our midfield creativity is hanging on Trevitt who is no where near ready. Apart from Power the other signings are a massive gamble, but with Danson still in charge we can’t expect anything better. No assets left to flog tofund any purchases . 2 million out of his pocket would buy 4 decent league 1 players but we are not even in that payment range. We are now getting outbid by league 2 clubs …..what a sorry state. No matter how much crap the club spew about sustainability, budgets ” the right fit”…..it all adds up to zero ambition from the owner. Long,long time since I’ve spoke to so many supporters who as always look forward to a new season kick off…….but feel no optimism whatsoever.

I think he came on against Port Vale for 30 mins and that’s been it.
Southport would have been the perfect opportunity for him with plenty young lads but he didn’t feature and there’s no reports of injury.
He’s not 16 he’s 21 and should be starting to look at pushing into a match day squad but he’s not.
I’ve said it before, the lack of a good striker will make this season a tough watch.

Use both the Tickle and Bettoni (poss £750k +)
Buy Taylor, use the surplus cash after buying him towards his wages and get the lad in. Then when he’s proved his worth sell for double triple what we paid. Like I said, big Dave would have ripped Huddersfield’s hand off.
Thing is it’s not a gamble we’ve seen what he can do and quite a few solo efforts which is super hard to find players who can get something out of nothing.
Danson has said the Tickle money will go back into the squad but what he fails to tell you it will be to cover the wage bill.
One last thing, who pays for the women’s team overheads ?
Wigan Athletic or Danson??
Now that would be interesting to know because if it’s the club its a drain on our resources.
If it’s Danson what happens when we’re eventually sold? who funds it then?
I think it’s disgraceful that we’ve sold Tickle, our last asset of any value, and it’s now being said the money will go towards wages. I just feel they’re absolutely running us into the ground.
I dont think Max Power realised just how shit we are. He is learning fast!
One thing I would say is, if by some miracle GC has some money given to him after the Tickle sale and the Bettoni deal, is that we should NOT blow it on Joe Taylor. If by any miracle GC has, say, 1.5 million to play with, Id look at getting in 4 players with that money.

Another Midfielder.
4 additions at 300-400k would, for me, possibly make the difference from a relegation slog, to Play-Off contenders. That injection of quality is what we need.
By all accounts Taylor hasn’t had good pre season friendlies whether it’s the style of football or if he’s trying to manufacture a move, sell or even a loan move.
To be honest, I can’t see us been in the running for either. For one this year’s budget won’t fit with his wages and Danson’s still shopping on the TK Maxx £5 rail.
I wish Cze would turn the light on because I personally think there’s a finisher there, he just needs setting up better. Hopefully Reggie Walsh does that.
But right now we’re like a dropped jigsaw puzzle with pieces missing as well. I remember the season a good few years back when we signed about 14 (Mandron etc). It was a disaster.
I’ve a feeling looking at our current squad history’s repeating itself.
Hungbo sent out on loan?. This lad needed regular football. He was too in & out the squad too much. Some say his crossing ability but alot of sides now double up on wide men even Lamal got marked out alot of games in the World Cup so cut the lad some slack.
I’ve a feeling it will come down to a deadline panic were we sign a 19 year old on loan from Burton or a 35 year defender from Shrewsbury similar to Jack Hunt who was a complete car crash disaster
J Smith now off the Payroll after joining Rochdale,so another wedge of money to pay for maybe a new concourse tv. 4 weeks window left so still time to surprise us with a ” marquee signing or two” but unlikely. I still would love to see Taylor here again. When was last time we had a striker who could take the ball 50 yds and get a shot off??…Blackpool away,Plymouth home and could have had 3 in opening 30 at Barnsley culminating in Tickles route 1 assist for his goal. Priceless. Costelloe, Saydee,Cze will be lucky to bag 10 between . Have to see if Perkins can break that mold. Trevitt for me is a huge risk….signed permanently…..treatment table most last season and still on it when we need as Caldwell stated” Robust ” players. He certainly has a lot to do to fit that criteria. Think CW s analagy of a dropped jigsaw fits perfectly…….17 year old kid from Chelsea possibly next through the door……will have undoubted quality but again “Robust “..???…..This league will certainly him grow up fast .
I’ve heard Taylors wages are £9200 per week. That’s far too much for us.
But then we are paying McManaman a wage, where it could be better used. I am angry that we sold Tickle and got some money from Bettoni, and Devine, and yet GC told we still had to lose players to bring in. Crazy. Everyone would’ve been very happy if they had said “right, from those deals, we can give Gary 2 million”. We’d all have been made up with that. Enough for 4, maybe 5 solid signings. Our squad of 20 is too small. Need 26 players minimum. Anything smaller, is not enough. We have 46 league games, at least 1 FA Cup, at least 1 League Cup, and that BSM trophy as well. Over 50 games with a 20 man squad is stupid.
