Have released Martin Petrov, striker Benjani and full-back Sylvinho, would any of these do a job for wigan?
8 June 2010 at 7:05 pm #36328Have released Martin Petrov, striker Benjani and full-back Sylvinho, would any of these do a job for wigan?Already been posted somewhere.. BUT.. Think Petrov would do a job without doubt if he stays fit, could replace Rodallega?.. Benjani would as he is always a prescence up front and certainly does know where the net is, and lets face it, most strikers would do a better job than what we have now.. As for Sylvinho, it’s clear he has class, theres no doubting that, but is a bit old. Saying that though i would definately have him here as he has experience, we already need a back-up left back as Figgys the only on, and we need one just incase Figgy goes anyway.
Summary being that.. I would have them ALL!
8 June 2010 at 7:13 pm #36334I’d have Benjani, Petrov as posted on another thread, for me is too injury prone and Sylvinho was good but is now, what, 35? Too old.
In saying that if we buy Boselli there’d be not much point buying Benjani unless we sold Scotland. Similar type of player and I can’t imagine Benjani being on 15,000 a week at Man City, so he’d be too expensive.

Sylvinho may be 35 but has experience and could do for a season don’t you think? As we are in desperate need of a Left-back even if Figueroa decides to stay as he is our only one!
8 June 2010 at 7:42 pm #36349Aye, but Edman was experienced and the games last season he played he was found out. I agree though we need a left back
I’d be much happier however, if we went for someone like Haughton from Spurs or the other one from Spurs, I think they’re both Kyle, on a loan or something.
Sylvinho would be on a fair wedge n’all.
8 June 2010 at 7:43 pm #36351Would love to see us go for Petrov but I dont think we would pay the wages he wanted

Speaking of Left backs id go for Gibbs of Arsenal.
8 June 2010 at 7:59 pm #36364Speaking of Left backs id go for Gibbs of Arsenal.Think he is way out of his depth at prem level. As shown when Valencia tore him apart and Gibbs had to take him down when he was the last man through on goal! Which when you are Wigan against a ‘Big 4’ team…Is obviously a yellow card offense!

11 June 2010 at 8:27 pm #36944Care to elaborate? You must know what he means. What he quoted made it look as if you were saying weshouldn’t sign Benjani unless Scotland goes. When in fact we should sign him regardless. Scotland shoudn’t be here anyway :D
11 June 2010 at 9:23 pm #36956Petrov would be a class signing.

Aye, I knew full well what he meant, I still stand by the comment though, Benjani and Scotland are similar players, i.e. target men who will hold the ball up, bringing others into the game. And with Whelan carping on all the time about the wage bill, whats the point in having two similar players of similar age who might not even play anyway given that we’re supposedly going to sign Boselli. (taking a minute to breathe). Coupled with Martinez’s insistence on playing the lone striker, and us not having loads of cash available for wages. I think it’s a fair comment.
Anyway this debate is warped in rhetoric anyway, given that we’ll probably not sign him as he’ll be on quite a wedge I would imagine.
11 June 2010 at 9:49 pm #36959I don’t think Scotland going should have anything to do with who comes and goes myself :)
