Not sure if anyone has already asked this but can anyone name any mon who has worn the Wigan Athletic shirt as a player and has gone to the World Cup Finals as part of a squad (regardless of playing or not)
15 June 2010 at 12:30 am #37370Pascal Chimbonda
15 June 2010 at 12:32 am #37371Chimbonda 2006
Edit> Damn you, beat me to it ;)
15 June 2010 at 12:34 am #37373Skoko 2006 :D
15 June 2010 at 12:37 am #37375:lol: Skoko, he was awful, did he make the Aussie squad in ’06?
What about Reto Ziegler? Switzerland, on loan from Spurs. Did Scharns play with Austria?

Austria dont tend to qualify much
15 June 2010 at 12:43 am #37380Worth a try though. Could Stojkovic and Kingson be included in this list? Did Won Hee Cho play for South Korea the other day?
15 June 2010 at 12:55 am #37388Did Won Hee Cho play for South Korea the other day?He didnt get selected in their squad.
15 June 2010 at 1:27 am #37396Ziegler is indeed in the Switzerland squad and batch is correct Won He Cho wasn’t even selected for the South Korea squad.
I make it 21 players BTW and that number doesn’t include Alcaraz who isn’t our player yet.

Yeah, and how many of those have been in a World Cup whilst playing for us? There’s about 10 at first glance that haven’t.

15 June 2010 at 1:47 am #37400Yeah, and how many of those have been in a World Cup whilst playing for us? There’s about 10 at first glance that haven’t.I still think that’s only Chimbonda and Skoko in 2006 (before this year’s batch)

Now i’m presuming (and i may be very wrong ….but i don’t think i am, i’m rarely wrong ;) ) that he is meaning 21 players who have played for us at some point and gone to the World Cup at some point. Not necessarily gone to the World Cup while a player here.

I’d agree on that point – I was just presuming that it was still regarding players present at the world cup during their time with us. But then seeing that CL has then gone on to mention 21 players then the topic’s changed
my bad ;) it pays to be vigilant though
