Is Confused.com, gocompare and the meerkats one the way to go, or is there a cheap alternative my renewal is £135 dearer than last year without any changes.
Any help would be appreciated.
5 September 2010 at 9:59 pm #45489Basically try any of them.
Car insurance firms work on the basis that you’ll be too lazy to change, so they keep hiking up the price year-on-year.
Look around any of the comparison sites, and then go back to your company and tell them you can get a cheaper offer.
If they can match it fine. If not, move to the one that gives the best offer.

Happy that I am not the only one. I have just got my 3 years no claims and my insurance has gone up.. Granted i have a new car but it is only the same car in a different colour! They said it was going to go up regardless due to premiums. Do not use the comparison sites, try Adrian flux.. find them on google… You just need to ring them and they will provide you with the best price… It has always been so much cheaper when I have checked comparison sites THEN rang them… Still it is not a cheap do for me though !!

And try ‘Adrian flux’ .. They have always been the cheapest when I have searched for hours!! .. Never tried LGB’s recommendation so cannot comment (Will definately check it next time I renew) but I would definately try Adrian flux to to be sure.
6 September 2010 at 11:29 am #45515Try call your current insurer and say you are going to leave, they will reduce it.
I believe on average premiums have risen by 25% this year, pretty much because of the scams people undertake on fake accidents etc.
Also watch out on the gocompare sites etc as they often give you basic options through the comparison site, and when you get through to the actual site, you make one or two minor changes and they hike the price….

They won’t reduce it. Well not always anyway.
I was with swift cover & recently moved house. A different area admittedly, but barely & still in St Helens and about a 2 minute drive away but my new house has a garage where the car would be kept overnight & the old one didn’t. So I assumed my car insurance would go down
Swift wanted the best part of £200 more per year & said it was because of the post code.
Anyway I shopped around & managed to get a lower price than swift were charging at my old house, went back to swift & asked if they could beat it & quite simply got a “No” without the person I spoke to even checking with anybodyCan never understand those people who stay with the same firm when their premiums go up coz “its too much hassle to change”. They cost themselves a fortune
