I received an email over the weekend, like many of you will have, from three old web sites that were merging together.

They stated in the email that they were the amalgamation of the only three Independent Wigan Athletic web sites on the net.

I want to state for the record that the Cockney Latic is a totally Independent Wigan Athletic Site, run by, written by and read by Wigan Athletic fans (although it is read by various football/sports fans from across the globe). The site is funded by kind donations from yourselves via the donation page, little bits from the advertising on site, but mostly from the pockets of myself and John.

Furthermore, Wigan Athletic Supporters Club’s website is run by volunteers and is Independent – I am guessing there are a few more.

I don’t know why the email was trying to mislead you and hopefully it was just an oversight by the author and not meant to be derogatory to Cockney Latic or any other WAFC fans sites out there, we all spend a lot of our spare time being involved in our respective sites – It seems totally out of character for him so I am guessing this to be the case.

      Hi all,

Oh dear, I have a feeling it may be me who has slipped up with my e-mail wording. I do seem to remember saying that YOTAC, Mudhutter and NAPO were ‘basically’ the only three independent sites on the Latics internet scene, and whilst I admit that this could be misconstrued as…

“They stated in the email that they were the amalgamation of the only three Independent Wigan Athletic web sites on the net”.

closer scrutiny of the word ‘basically’ may be needed here. I am almost sure that this oversight, and that is genuinely what it was, is my fault and mine alone, so ‘They’ do not come into play either.

The original e-mail contents were never meant to be aired on a public forum, that said, it also had nothing to hide, and I do concede that for the purposes of this message you have needed to (mis) quote from it in order to put your side of things across to your loyal following.

And of course there was no malice in what I stated in the e-mail. I’m surprised that anybody could even think that this was the case. I was certainly not setting out to be mislead…

“I don’t know why the email was trying to mislead you”

… anybody connected with Cockney Latic because I have nothing but admiration and, above all else, respect, for anybody who has ever been connected with the CL from the very early days in London right up until the present day.

I still feel that I must apologise, even though the wording of the e-mail is nothing like the interpretation of its message contained here, because I accept that it is very easy to mis-comprehend the e-mail that I put out.

As always I have answered for myself, and myself only. I have done it truthfully and in the knowledge that the handful of CL members who received the e-mail courtesy of their YOTAC membership can read it as well.

Although not updated with up-to-date new-fangled stuff, my site is still there with a fair bit of archive material, and when I last looked I too was independent :D

Bernard this wasn’t meant to out you, nor to drag an apology. As I said it seemed out of character and was probably a bit of over enthusiasm at the new venture, good luck…. though I know you won’t need it.

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

An apology was required, as was an explanation of how I thought the post was a tad unfair to me. I certainly have no hard feelings and remain as supportive as ever to any other Latics website. Let’s face it, we all work hard enough at it.

TNS came about because basically the three smaller independent web sites (again I speak for myself) felt that ‘less could be more’ and that is the only reason for the merger.

CL deserved an explanation of what we were doing out of respect and courtesy, and that is why I got in touch before going live.

You are correct I was very enthusiastic about the new project, I was also a tad emotional as YOTAC, and LF before it, had taken up a decade and a half of my life!

George, I’m sure that TUWAWS was the independent benchmark for us all!
