depending on your definition worst/rough/crap ale/ atmosphere or just a plain sh*t hole etc:
the boro in burnley (match related) springs to mind. closer to home, i’d say the owd whitesmiths was a rough place once (spanish place now) or beech tree (beech hill/martland estate) not sure whether it’s still open….? i’t was a reet dive last time i went in about 7 year ago.
27 November 2012 at 1:22 pm #97244Last Orders in town is a bit of a shit hole and full of nutters !
27 November 2012 at 2:24 pm #97255In my student days I once got caught short & had to dive in a place called The Bear in Aberystwyth to use the crapper.
If you’ve ever seen the bit in Trainspotting where Renton has to use the toilet in the bookies, this particular bog put that one to shame.
Still needs must & all thatThe actual pub was alreet but I still have flashbacks about that toilet
Other than that any Robinsons pub is usually an absolute dump whilst Samuel Smiths pubs generally leave bad impressions coz the lager is downright awful
27 November 2012 at 2:35 pm #97256Union Tavern, Salford. One pint then out. If ever there was a pub that the bar scene from Star Wars was based on, it’s that one.

Beech Tree is definitely up there! I agree with you on that one!
27 November 2012 at 4:39 pm #97267you reveal rather a lot about yourself by admitting you have frequented the “Britt”, garswood! That place was certainly unique!
27 November 2012 at 5:06 pm #97268harrys bar on wallgate yet when it was the clarence hotel it was reasonable pub

27 November 2012 at 6:02 pm #97273Couldn’t beat The Stork at Marsh Green for a Sunday scrap.

They actually switched the lights on for us when we went in, prior to that I presume they were all sitting in the dark. Pool table smashed to pieces and blood on the wall in the toilets.Defo a one pinter, barmaid would have had it though, but depending on how long you’ve been sat at the bar, I guess they all would eh?

Pfft a good old stab up in the bogs…. Standard.
Bowling green on top road in Swinton not one of the most notorious pubs I’ve been in but was in there for the Hatton mayweather fight.
It was rammed like a tin of sardines and amongst the constant fighting and shouting you would hear a tazer zap followed by a yelp.
I spent the majority of that night with my back to the wall minding my own business….

The JFK (John Fitzgerald Kennedy….yes, the assassinated U.S. President) which stood on John Kennedy Way in the middle of Hattersley estate.
Christ, it was rough. The locals were all rough as sin. Ricky Hatton’s old local…..no wonder he learned to box! Punters pushing landlady out of the way and serving themselves….for free! Landlord was some kind of North West gunslinging ‘draw champion’ and would come out dressed in his wild west attire, complete with gunbelt, holsters, and dual cap-firing pistols. Head-the-balls, him AND his missus.
Think the pub in ‘Shameless’ and you are only a fraction close. I do believe that it’s been bulldozed and replaced by pensioners bungalows. Good riddance.
Through my work over the past 15 years, I’ve visited loads of pubs all over the place and could probably write a book about it. Other shithole pubs that spring to mind, are:
Duke Of York, Todmorden. Inbred central. Men and women arguing on a Sunday afternoon about maintainance payments, etc.
The Royal, London Road, Bolton. Again, inbreds. All pissed and scrappin.
Most pubs in Ramsbottom. All “are you local?” types. Strange places.
The Ferrybridge, Mexborough, S York. Inbreds, very local, Paul Shane’s local! (Ted Bovis off Hi De Hi)
Was pleased to see Queens Head at Aspull has shut, when I went past the other day. Good, it was a right dump.
28 November 2012 at 12:31 am #97293I tried to put a photo up from my own files but messed it up ! :S
