On paper the tale of the tape sees Wigan having the better of the games against our visitors on Saturday. We have played 20 times in the League, losing just 5 of those games and only once at home.
There has been 8 draws and 7 wins (5 at home), so it would seem we should go into this game full of confidence in our history against them. You can find the Wigan Athletic v Birmingham City head to head here on the Cockney Latic website, along with every other team we have ever played.
Paper of course is just that, plus with our current down turn in form we could be in for a long day. But with the return of Grigg and the lack of Naismith, I feel we will see a totally different team to that of late.
The last 7 games has seen Birmingham win 2, draw 2 and lose 3. Two of those losses were against teams you would expect to see there or there about at the end of the season, the other loss was against Bristol City.
Latics have had 4 losses, two draws and a solitary win in the same time period, but I can say that we at least showed we are better than the result suggested on most of those games. That obviously won’t wash at the end of the season if we carry on, we immediately need to turn our dominant periods into goals, and quickly.
Trying to call this one is hard, it is not like giving tips for playing online slots as there is a method to that. But if I have to stick my neck out I will go for a 2-1 Wigan win, so my bet will definitely be a Wigan to win BTTS.
I am hoping that we can get back to the winning home form that has kept us away from those relegation spots early in the season. A time before injuries became an issue and we started to not believe in ourselves.
I have to think that Windass can get out of this bloody awful rut he in and score that goal that will restore his confidence, Grigg also can’t get fit enough any quicker either.
Swansea away next week is different prospect now, as when we met them at home we should have won but only got a 0-0 draw. At the Liberty Stadium I feel we will meet a much sterner task, especially with our garbage away form.
Look out for our Swansea preview next week.
