Calling out the EFL and it’s governance for all football clubs

EFL and football masterplan

First of all, these words are all aimed at getting every football fan in the country to sign a petition to allow the FSA a day in Parliament to bring the plight of all Football League Clubs to the country’s attention.

If it wasn’t before, it is now very apparent that the rules that the EFL so called enforce, are wholly not fit for purpose and need a huge overhaul.

Yes, it has took Wigan Athletic being dealt the cruellest of blows to trigger our interest in this, but all the same this needs to be at the forefront of EVERY football fan in the country. No football club is safe from this happening to them, sign the petition now to help stop this happening again.

The Premier League are governed by their own bodies, but clubs in the Premier League will be in and out of the EFL Leagues and so will be affected by the total inadequacy of the EFL. None of them are safe, especially as they will spend, spend and spend to get back there and will not find help when it all goes wrong.

They [EFL] say they are there to help clubs out, no they are not, nothing could be further from the truth. They are there to dictate, react and ignore. This needs to change to listening to fans as well as clubs, being proactive and doing things for the good of the game – OR THERE WILL BE NO GAME.

This body is supposed to be there for the good of football, to that they need to have the ability to influence and the structure right now doesn’t seem to want to do that, they are quite happy plodding along watching clubs slip further and further into trouble.

The FSA (previously the FSF and Supporters Direct) have campaigned for a fan led enquiry into the running of the EFL, but to no avail. Successive governments have promised their time in Parliament, that has not yet happened.

The only way to guarantee a day in Westminster is to get 100,000 signatures on a petition. Just such a petition was set by Wigan Athletic Supporters Club initially to combat the lunacy over the Owners and Directors Test (OADT) that is clearly not fit for purpose.

The FSA fully back this petition and quite ready to present the case for the full fan based enquiry to Parliament and not just the OADT. We as football fans need this to happen, so there is a set plan to bring football clubs that are not in the Premier League up to a point where they can survive without having to rely on outside funding.

This has happened far too often, Leeds United, Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers, Sunderland, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Hove Albion, Macclesfield, Chester and most recently the sad case of Bury are just a few of the clubs that have been thrown to the wolves by the EFL.

It HAS TO STOP, the FSA have carefully thought out actions that could secure the safety of football clubs.

DON’T WAIT LIKE WE DID, DON’T HAVE YOUR CLUB PUT AT RISK BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING.
