The final day of the season is here and although Wigan Athletic’s safety was assured a couple of weeks ago, we can still have a major say in which team will win the League as if we beat Chelsea, Manchester United could walk off with the Premier League title.
Latics travel back to the Capital where results tend to desert us, but this time we are the team that could actually change where the Premier League Title will go. If Wigan Athletic could manage to do the double over the Champions elect and Manchester United win, the trophy will end up at Old Trafford.
As we are now safe, we actually haven’t got that much pressure riding on us; we can go to Stamford Bridge and play without expectation. Chelsea on the other hand will have at the back of their mind that they won’t want to screw it up and allow United to grab the title off them on the final day.
We have a few injuries to cope with, as Kirkland is out the goalkeeper could be Mike Pollitt for this game after the on loan Stojkovic has failed at every attempt to impress. Titus Bramble had an operation on his stress fracture in his foot and so we could see our new signing Steve Gohouri partner up with Steve Caldwell.
The Blues will be without Ricardo Carvalho, Jose Bosingwa, Michael Essien and John Mikel Obi. We all know the damage an on form Chelsea can do, their recent record is awesome, but we have beat them once this season and I will guess we will go all out to spoil their party on Sunday afternoon.
Latics will want to finish as high as they can in the League to maximise the amount of prize money and we will also want to finish above those from Horwich…
The referee will be Martin Atkinson
