After beating Preston to get through to the last 16 of the Carling Cup, Wigan Athletic will want to get the Premier League season back on track with a decent performance and hopefully some points at Birmingham City this weekend. We haven’t got the greatest of records in the league at St Andrews, just 3 draws is all we have managed on our travels there in the past and so a win would be a great breakthrough and another record off our backs.

Birmingham though are in resilient mood this term with tough performances reaping them a win and three draws from their five games played so far. The Midlands outfit have actually not lost at home since 26th September last year and so that shows how much of a difficult task we have in front of us.

McLeish has no new injuries, just McFadden and Michel will be missing from his 25 man squad. Roberto Martinez will have to see how Hendry Thomas reacts to his ankle injury sustained against Preston in midweek. Di Santo and Stam also received knocks but should be OK.

N’Zogbia showed the sort of form that got him interest in the summer on Wednesday, more of the same would really rub salt in the wounds of the Club that tried to lure him away from the DW Stadium after offering £9 million. The Frenchman is said though to have never wanted the move there in the first place and talks collapsed before they really got started.

The referee will be Mark Clattenburg
