Wigan Athletic will face a different prospect when the take on Spurs at White Hart Lane, but the win at Hartlepool will have injected some much needed belief and will hopefully spur us on to a decent result this Saturday.

Spurs are coming off the back of a fantastic night in Europe as they beat some Young Boys by 4 goals to nil. The commentary that night had to be smiled at as the quote of “the Young Boys can’t seem to keep their back doors shut as Tottenham are dishing out some severe punishment”.

It is just what our team needs at the moment, a side that is firing on all cylinders with our fragile egos and defence. But as we showed the other night, we can keep a clean sheet and more so can also score and win games, we just need the belief.

It will be a tough ask against Tottenham though, but revenge for the drumming that was handed out last season will be high on Roberto’s agenda and let’s face it, if this team performs like it looks like we can on paper, the ‘shocks’ of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea could be there to be repeated.

Tottenham might risk Defoe’s groin again now that he has cancelled his operation, but Gomez, Woodgate, Modric, O’Hara, Gallas and Bentley will all probably miss the game through injury. Robbie Keane is still nursing a knee injury and Dos Santos a hamstring problem, but both will more than likely feature in their squad.

Latics will still be without Gary Caldwell and Victor Moses will be out for a couple of weeks with an ankle injury. This means Roberto will have a near full strength squad, especially if Charles N’Zogbia can’t agree personal terms with or wants to go to Birmingham (let’s face it, who would WANT to go there unless they were paying a fricking fortune?)

Bobby will want a better performance at the back after the disastrous opening games to the season and if we could manage to do that and score a couple as well, it would firmly put the demons at bay. It will be a hard task but on paper we can compete, we just need to go out with the right mentality.
