Wigan Athletic and the Police have announced that the game against Aston Villa and Latics will not go ahead due to safety fears.
After severe snowfall through the night the game against the Villians is to be postponed until a later date which will be announced soon.
The ground itself is perfect, the pitch is good condition and the walkways around are being cleared. There is a lot of snow in the North Stand though, but staff were confident that they could clear that to get the game on.
The problems lie within the road network which is at best dangerous and for those that would have to travel a distance, could be nigh on impossible to get to the ground on time. The M6 is still very slow and in parts at a crawl.
Although Latics have the biggest local support in the league (over 75% of season ticket holders living in the WN postcode) but that still means a treacherous journey from outer lying areas and there are still about 4,000 people at least to travel big distances (including Villa fans).
