Very encouraging opening 25 mins and then the life sucked out of us by a much, much better team than we are.
Not much more to add.
3 December 2011 at 10:12 pm #75418Your being a little generous with the 25mins Griff !! More like 10mins if that ! Some shocking performances from certain players today, McCarthy being the worst of the lot !
3 December 2011 at 10:24 pm #75419yeah i think we did okay 20-25 mins,if gomez had put his chance away and that would have given us a boost, still dont think moses does enough yet, that sounds wrong but i know what i mean

3 December 2011 at 10:43 pm #75422Your being a little generous with the 25mins Griff !! More like 10mins if that ! Some shocking performances from certain players today, McCarthy being the worst of the lot !No, I’m not. Up until the first goal (27 mins) we were at least equal. Then we conceded a poor goal, an even poorer second straight away and I’m afraid that you cannot give a team as good as Arsenal those kind of gifts. From thereon in, they completely controlled the game.
But if you want to concentrate on knocking our players rather than giving credit where it’s due to a class side, knock yourself out.
Agree some players didn’t play as well as they could, but there you go.
Off out for a few beers now to forget about it.
3 December 2011 at 11:04 pm #75423Griff they were controlling the game for a good 10 mins or more before the poor opener. We didn’t create any chances after the first 5mins. Sammon was dragged out of position leaving nothing at all in the centre due to Gomez playing in a position that baffled a few around us ! Who was right back ? Stam or Gohouri ?. Was it 5 across the back ? Why was Jones left back ? They completely dominated down the left due to the set up and our midfield was in complete disarray. If that was a damage limitation set up it didn’t work ! If we play like that next week, West Brom will spank us !
3 December 2011 at 11:26 pm #75425I totally agree with Griff. We definitely was equal to Arsenal for the first 20-25 mins. When they scored we all said, bleedin eck we didn’t deserve that.
Just watch Gomez tracking Arteta back for that opener. I nearly bust a blood vessel shouting at him to get a foot in. He jogged for about 10 yards then stopped. Thought Ali should have done better with it despite the ball taking a horrible swerve.
Also thought Ali should have been better placed for their second but poor marking at the back post. All credit to the Gunners, superb team no matter who they play.
We need to get summert next week. :woohoo:
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!3 December 2011 at 11:40 pm #75426I agree with your Gomez comment and Al Habsi comment, although my mates said the 2nd wasn’t his fault. The first must have swerved terribly for him to have not got near it and MOTD will reveal all ! Gomez just turned his back on Arteta and so he ghosted past him ! We all perceive play in different ways but I thought too many had off days today. McCarthy was shockingly bad !! Gomez not too far behind him and Caldwell had a bad day at the office unlike last week ! We need to be switched on more. Yes Arsenal were good but I think we gave them to much respect and allowed them far too much time on the ball and we didn’t close them down like we did in the first 10mins were we harried them on the ball !
3 December 2011 at 11:42 pm #75427Like has been said, there was a game for 25 minutes or so. Two poor goals conceded and that was that.
Shame because after the last two games there was a genuine feeling of optimism amongst us today evaporating at about 3.25. Can’t fault the effort and commitment of the players but sometimes you just have to hold your hand up and doff your cap to a better unit, talentwise and tactically. Although we’re in the same division, we’re not in the same league and we’re not alone.
3 points against West Brom next week will put things right :)

4 December 2011 at 12:02 am #75432Martinez has learnt a few lessons from today..
1. Close down whenever possible
2. One on EACH post when defending a corner
3. NEVER play one up front at home
4. Why play James McArthur when we have better players on the bench..EDIT:
5. Play even deeper to get to spilled balls earlier (as were second to every ball Al Habsi spills) :(
4 December 2011 at 12:04 am #7543315 Mins Most’after the Gunners weatherd the storm it was game over,if it aint workin change it?thats what any other manager would do’dont be giving us ther a good team’Fulham held em to a draw last week plus we do need the points.OH blah blah we played well last week, its time our manager took the blame not the players.

2. One on EACH post when defending a corner

4. Why play James McArthur when we have better players on the bench..James McArthur was on the bench James McCarthy was on the pitch, I nearly said played but that’s open to debate he was shite.
4 December 2011 at 12:13 am #75435Thats what I meant, dont rate James McArthur one bit although he did do his bit against Sunderland, don’t think il ever understand why putting a player on like McArthur with 2 minutes to go especcially 4-0 down .. unless Martinez has a bet on how many games he plays..
