This day saw Latics do a double over Plymouth Argyle, firstly beating them in 1983 by a score of 2-0 (Eamonn O’Keefe and John Butler scoring at Home Park) and again in 1986 where we ran out 3-0 victors (Paul Jewell with two and David Lowe on the score sheet at Springfielld Park).

I’ve still got that game on VHS.
Loads of Pilgrim fans up that day; jumping on’t roof of the away dug out at Springy and frightening them owd geezers who parked on’t corner of the pitch in their little blue disabled chariots ( you don’t see that these days ). Happy memories !!!!!!!!!!!!!

there were thousands who made their way up. they filled the away end and the two paddock areas under the stand too.

remember some lad dressed in sailor’s cap and beachwear getting hauled out of the wigan end for clearly not being a wiganer.

oh, and some pub getting its safe pinched and a whole coachload being arrested for questioning.

I remember the home game as well. Think Plymouth were top or nearly promoted, so they all came up for the party and we stuffed them.

They were nearly as mad as the Sunderland fans on the muddy hill
