On this day in 1997 we had what was probably our best away day ever as we took over the town of Torquay, we won our game 3-0 with Graham Jones scoring two and Isidro Diaz the other. We were promoted to the old division 2 by winning the League this season on goal difference from Fulham.
In 1980 7,720 spectators saw us beat Walsall 3-0 at Springfield Park, George Urquhart scored the first followed by two from Peter Houghton. It was our second season in the Football League and we only missed out on promotion by just 5 points after finishing 6th in the 4th Division.
Richard, you’ve let me down. I think you’ll find that Fulham actually had a better goal difference than us. We were promoted as champions because of our better goals scored.
Yeah im sure it was on Goals scored rather than goal difference!
Although i would agree that was a great day out! I cant believe it was 97 though it seems like it was yesterday!
