Latics attendance of 7991 was the highest League one attendance of the night, and there was a full fixture list.
It’s a good few years since that happened.

A great attendance really but such a shame that we were treated to such garbage. A negative set up with snails pace build ups, passing sideways, backways and to Milwall players. Yawn a minute stuff. Malky, Uwe and Coyle were booed off for better performances and approaches to games than this. Points thrown away in the name of dreadfully football. If Gary wants to play this yawn a minute rubbish 7991 will seem very good indeed.

If we carry on playing like that we will be lucky get 5000 on a very boring game until we needed to do something. I wish caldwell would just let um loose from the start

Unfortunately this seems the style he likes to play. I know there were injuries but Garys true intentions are showing. Such a shame because we have some good players who look good going forward.Tonight’s style was horrible and boreing and nothing at all to do with players who were available. It was a style of choice by G.C.

Garbage? Harsh. The problem we have is a lack of real quality. Or confidence, maybe. Almost all of the players need more than one touch and the first touch is usually backwards or sideways which takes the momentum out of a move. That, along with a dearth of forward players making runs and space, is a bit of a problem right now.

Jacobs and Grigg look like they have some quality and their first touches show that with things seeming to happen once they get the ball.

I think the players look hungry and they do bust a gut and I think they can only get better.

The problem is the managers tactics

Alas we improved when Junior came on and boy have we missed him some excellent passes from the guy

That is a problem. The players do try and there are some workmanlike performances but they are severely constrained by the type of football they are expected to play. Thankfully GC is a little more flexible than our Spanish friend at Everton and he will change things if we ever get a near to complete squad back.
A point saved when we reverted to two strikers but three points were there for the taking yet again. Defending was shambolic again which needs sorting.

The defending for their second goal was pathetic. Nobody prepared to put their body on the line. Hard to get excited at minute with the style of football presented. No real penetration due to ball being moved too slowly in final third. The four points dropped from winning positions in last two mean 3 points on Saturday are vital.

                      #145014

The shambolic defending hasn’t and won’t be sorted by a manager who couldn’t defend when he was a player. The bloke hasn’t a clue and with his negative approach it won’t be long before he starts emptying the stadium. Apart from Scunny there hasn’t been one decent performance for a full 90 minutes against some piss poor or average at best, teams in this league. Caldwell out.

                      #145015

Caldwell out May be a bit harsh considering all the injuries we’ve got but hes the one who chooses the tactics.

The defending was poor for both goals, granted. The manager’s tactics simply seem to be keep the ball at all costs, even if it means slowing moves down and pissing three quarters of the crowd off. There were a couple of times when they were farting around with it at the back when it simply needed hoofing.

Having said that, it’s a brand new team, we’re ninth in the table just seven points from the leaders. What’s that corny old saying? Oh yeah, the impossible we do at once, miracles take a little longer. I think some people may have set their sights a little high for this season.

                        Agree.

We looked comfortable for three quarters of the game (although we struggled with the final ball) and didn’t deserve to be drawing – let alone losing – when their second went in.

Our goals scored is comparable with most teams in the league, it’s the goals against stat that is costing us, and throwing another striker on isn’t going to sort that out no matter what donnys page keeps blathering on about.

Junior made a big difference when he came on as he’s a complete different type of midfielder to the three we had playing in the middle for most of the game.

Not the best of matches, but by no mean as bad as some of the drama queens who come on here are making out.

I’d say it was about as bad as I expected it to be but then again I expect it to get better and it wasn’t the end of the world.

If we keep picking up points and keeping in touch, the injury problems and suspensions we’re suffering now will be suffered by other teams as we hopefully hit full stride.

From what I’ve seen of this division, where we sit currently and the players we have, I don’t think promotion this season is setting our expectations too high.

My hope for this season was to stay up and maybe finish mid-table after the fire sale.So league position wise we are doing OK. It is the football we play at times which is so bloody boring and lacking in urgency.Last night was a fine example of how the game should not be played, even with an injury crisis. Faithless would have to re-write the lyrics to insomnia watching that.It was equal in footballing entertainment to that garbage John Beck played at Cambridge and Knob End. Yes the defence were dire too.
