Okay just seen the game back and i have a few views on a few of our players.

Watson, I am, And have always been of the opinion that this guy just aint nowhere near good enough for top flight football. Distribution wise and set pieces are dreadful for someone used as the set piece specialist. Get rid.

Gomez, Although he tries he doesn’t make a good enough impression but unlike Watson he is good at set pieces. Squad player.

Beausejour, Good left foot on him but his fitness is ludicrous. The fact he has piled on weight since he joined is not the sign of a professional who is bothered about what he does. Diet or get rid.

Boyce, Love him as a player and servant but is too old to act as an attacking wing back. Need young legs there and someone with a bit of skill. Squad player and maybe some kind of club ambassador role.

Caldwell, Ramis, Alcaraz, Lopez. Just far too slow, I have watched how Ramis has tried to bed in but his pace is always going to let him down. Caldwell just fouls everyone to make up for his inept defensive abilities. Good leader and captain but as a player he is piss poor. Alcaraz is hit and miss but i haven’t forgiven him for the spitting incident and think he should have gone then. Lopez, Enough said.

The two Mac’s. Never really rated either of them. I think they are both grossly over rated and go un-noticed. If i had to pick one of them it would be McArthur but only as a squad player.

The only player that has changed my mind over the last few years is Di Santo. He is one of the most important players in the team and now he has started scoring it makes him more dangerous. Bob has done well with him.

Don’t jump down my throat they are just my views of what will improve us.

All fair comment yosser, but we are what we are. It must be frustrating at times for bobby, he hasn’t got alot of money to spend, so has to take a chance on cheaper players, and the best thing for him is if they perform just good enough. Let me elaborate on that, if they don’t perform well, we get mullered and ultimately will get relegated, if they perform too well, they’ll be sold to the highest bidder at the first opportunity, so mediocrity is the order of the day, to get a team gelling and playing well enough to stay in the league. At least he’s taking a chance on 2/3 million pound players and not 8/10 million pound players, which have just the same potential to be shite at times.
We will never be top six challengers with the spending and wage structure we have, and that is due to the lack of income the club receives, but in the long run we’ll be ok, and that is what’s important, if you look at a club like Everton, it’s taken 10 years from a good manager like moyes to get steady results and at times a really good side, but they spend beyond their means at times and leave themselves vulnerable because of it, and they too are forced to sell assets when another club comes in for them, they haven’t won anything and I think we have got to as many finals as them in the last 10 years. And this is a club steeped in history and success with a large fan base, so what do we really expect?
I think that mid table is a fantastic achievement, but survival is always the aim, and I think we are capable of that, a good cup run would boost morale and revenue and give us more exposure, so we should be giving it a real go, something I think we have been guilty of ignoring in recent years.
We have to remember that we are new to this game, and are feeling our way into it, both economically and on the pitch, if we are still here in 10 or 15 years I would wager that the ground will be full every week, and the personnel will be of a better standard, but we’ll have to put up with some frustration in the meantime, but it’s not all bad, we’ll have some great days this season as well as the shite.

Nope, not having any of that. Far too much sense spoken. :)

what do people want/expect from a club that has been punching above its weight for 8 seasons – 7 more than what i thought it would have. if you would have told me in 2005 that fans in 2012 would be moaning about the club not spending enough money on better players/coaching staff etc. to compete in the premier league, i would have thought you’d just escaped from winwick.

in my 34 years of watching wigan i’d never have thought we would be playing in the top division. in the past i watched wigan & TBH never really cared much whether we won, lost or drew. i turned up to watch my team & to enjoy watching a football match. if we won – great. if we lost – there was always next week. since we have got into the premier league there has developed a lot of in-house fighting between fans – hence the birth of darkside .v. lightside. whilst its important for all fans to voice their opinions on performances, the team, manager etc, why cant we all be united in supporting our team and simpy accept we do not have the finances to get into the top 8. as long as we are in the premier league, we will simply be one of those teams in there to make up the numbers.

at the end of the day, we have been in the premier league for 8 seasons now, so the club, management, coaching staff & players MUST be doing something right.

          i beg to differ
evey year we sell our best and replace them with a poorer standard
so going off that (15 years and we will be stronger) is impossible to do
as next year who will be left as i see figgy di santo one or two more not being here
plus kone will jump ship first chance he gets
eventually only shyte playing staff and ground staff will be left

in all my years supporting wigan we have ALWAYS sold our best players. in the present day, admittedly this trend continues. but as i said in my previous post – we must be doing something right to remain in the premier league for as long as we have.

OK I am going to take the bit I could understand (it was a struggle) out of what ever that was.

Are you related to Sudworth? ;)

So you think we have put together a worse team every season since we have been in the premier league?

GK Pollit / Filan / Walsh V Al Habsi / Pollit / Nicholls
Filan was a cracking player for us but nowhere near Al Habsi.

DL Baines / Mcmillan V Figueroa / Beausajor
You might have a case for Baines but Mcmillan might as well not of been here due to injuries.

DC De Zeuw / Henchoz / Jackson V Caldwell / Alcaraz / Ramis

Arjan, Henchoz and Jackson were all good defenders but were in the twilight of their careers and seriously lacking pace to compete with the top players in this league.

DR Chimbonda / Taylor V Boyce / Stam

Boyce over Chimonbonda every day of the week for me

Cant be arsed going in detail on the rest as it clearly demonstrates you are talking out of your arse.

Teale, Bullard, Francis, Mahon, Johannson, Camara & Roberts.

            V

McCarthy, Mcarthur, Gomez, Maloney, Di Santo, Kone, Boselli, Mcmanaman, Miyachi & Crusat.

In fact I would go as far to argue that we have consistently improved the squad every year since we have been in the premier league.

Maybe not spending the most but always having money available for the right player at the right price should an opportunity arise.

But no worries go and keep on moaning sunshine.

Apologies if I missed any players off.

Bicky, we’ve sold our best players since sky invented football, since being in the prem we’ve sold Baines, Bullard, Valencia, Palacios, Cattermole, Heskey, N’Zogbia and Moses to name but a few.

              We’re still here.

So to say its impossible to do it for another 10/15 years is obviously wrong. I’d say it’s more an achievable goal.

If we can compete in this league, whilst spending within our means, and building the structure of the club (training facilities, academy etc), whilst our fan base continues to grow, then I would call that a resounding success, not the abject failure you seem to wish upon us at every opportunity.

Following a club is a matter of dealing with the ups and downs, at the moment, believe it or not, we are on the up, though you wouldn’t think it listening to the crap some people say on here, we may be a top six side in 15 years, we might be in division 2, so what, life’s a journey not a destination. Whinge if you must, but don’t try to tell good long term supporters that we should be doing any better than we are, because it just doesn’t wash I’m afraid.
