Supposing & just supposing the chances that we have created during say, the past 5 games(& yes, i agree that in some games only very few chances have been created), we actually managed to score in those games. Therefore resulting in us winning say a further 4 or 5 games than what our current “games won” statistic is at the moment, & obviously, which puts us higher up the table.

The question is: Would the majority of you still be posting threads titled “caldwell out,” or would you be content & put up with what some label as “boring possession football.”

Two separate issues there Runcorn, at the moment we are playing boring football and are languishing second from bottom and the manager doesn’t want to change tactics he swaps and changes the team on a weekly basis but will not change his philosophy.

Hence the cries for Caldwell out! And no i wouldn’t be content with tippy tappy football i thought we had left that behind 3 years ago, so yes people would still get on Caldwells back.

      Fuck the EFL

Fans are very fickle, it is basically a results game and it wouldn’t matter to ‘most’ fans if we were hoofing it from goaly to three centre forwards or passing it around for 95 minutes in our half then popping in with a lucky deflected goal. Fans want wins (even better if we score loads of goals and one more than oppo). So in answeer to question, fans wouldn’t be asking for his head if we were winning more than losing

I said exactly the same thing to my mate coming off the ground on Saturday. At times we are playing superb football, one move on Saturday saw about 6-7 slick quick passes that saw Grigg honing in on goal only to get thwarted on the last second.

I have been in the main quite happy with the style of play, OK it gives you the jitters sometimes when they play it around at the back, but I’ve seen a number of teams trying to play the same way against us, but not as well.

Runcorn for me has a good point, apart from Saturday we have created enough chances in most of our games to win them easily, they just haven’t been put away. Irrespective of the formation or style of play, those chances have been created.
The difference of where we are now and we deserve to be, is a combination of crap finishing and sturdy defensive play. We often don’t give the opponents much credit.

I totally agree that GC should quickly decide on his best team and stick with it. To be fair injuries have slightly hindered him, but he has also tinkered around too much with the formation for my liking.

Lets see where we are at Christmas and then start the head hunting if things haven’t picked up.

Can’t agree we create chances.Grigg 1 of this leagues best poachers completely starved. Nil midfield support ,completely isolated .Preston 83 mins possession and 1 Grigg header to show for it and same against Burton. Xmas too late for me cos if we’re still crap Grigg will be gone soon after then we’re going to be goosed altogether relying on ALF and Davies to bang em in.Need to wash the essence of Robbie out of our hair completely including backroom boys if next 2 games don’t see improvement or pass Bolton on way down.

Don’t be fooled Grigg has missed his fair share of chances this season great poacher or not. I call him the Rolls Royce of forwards, love the guy and would hate him to go, but great forwards create their own chances as well as being set up. Let’s not berate the other 9 outfield players completely for Griggs performances week in week out.

Apart from Brentford I’ve watched every other game and believe me apart from Satdy, we have created more than enough chances to win the games, including that one against what some people think are a “super star” team, Preston.

I’ll not bother stating the reasons why we shouldn’t get rid of Caldwell just yet, somebody else has already done it and done it well.

I’d agree with a lot of what JR and Runcorn say, the early madness of games like Forest apart, we haven’t conceded lots of chances/goals, however what we don’t do at times is move the ball quickly enough and that final ball can be lacking. GC obviously wants us to play neat, passing football but he needs to find his best XI and formation and stick to it. The fact we are in most games would suggest that the basis is there of a reasonable side, its just up to the manager to get the best out of what he;s got.

I’m still behind Caldwell, but things do need to start to see an upturn in results quickly or I fear it may be time to get someone else in, the big question would be who…Chairman may have a very big decision to make soon.

I don’t recall anyone on here referring to Nob End as a “super star” team. They have had some fantastic results of late but their team are far from super stars. Pretty average really but the manager with his thinking has ground out these results from some real journeymen players.
I just wish our manager could just be less rigid on his style of play and try to get a settled side together and get the same results.

Exactly. There have been games where we should have had a panful but either the shot has been poor or the final ball dreadful. We’ve even been unlucky at times.

The times when we look really poor and struggle is when sides park the bus because we have no plan B other than the passing game.

I think GC’s plan B is to throw Davies on for the last 10-15 mins and keep banging it in the box. Would hate to see that type of football for 90 mins and most teams would settle for defending the long ball rather than having to chase players trying to get round the back.

Lets get behind them satdy, go in numbers to Cardiff [price no excuse this time]and peesh on Warnock’s party. :cheer:

90 minutes of the powderpuff passing game isn’t working. Even when we go long for the last 10 minutes it doesn’t seem to work as the opponenents adapt easily because it is so predictable.

We need to try to mix it up within the game a bit more, but the way we set up for most games doesn’t allow that without subbing players and changing everything around.

The opposing manager sees whats happening and just changes it around a bit at the back to counteract it and they normally just play out the last 10 minutes with ease.

Set up the team a bit more positively from the start to allow us to be able to play differently within games and I am sure we have the quality within the squad to beat most teams in this league.

That’s it Horc. We seem to be too rigid with the formation. We need the likes of Jacobs, Powell, Jordi and Power to basically roam free in the middle of the park and for people to run off them but it doesn’t happen often enough.

It’s not easy to break a side down who is intent on sitting and even some of the best struggle to do so, but we won’t do with a game of statues.

Passing football can be exciting when the ball is being passed around quickly. Just watch how LFC do it. IMO they are very exciting to watch at the moment.
