A mate of mine who is a season ticket holder for everton believes we are where we are through sheer unluckiness. He says we are a good team but have been unlucky with losing our defence – seemingly every other week. & now with boyce injured it begs the question:
Any team that as had the majority of there back line missing most of the season are bound to struggle to have two of your first choice center backs missing the majority of the season is just not right .I dont think we have had Bobbys preferred back three/five all season

In response to my question, i agree with 35years. We haven’t played with a first choice defence all season which invariably unsettles everytthing. It seems that everytime we get a settled defence, one gets injured. I know souness blamed the amount of. injuries on newcastle going
down. If we stay up this season it will be more of a success than the previous 3 seasons solely because of the injuries.
We don’t half get some bad luck with calls, injuries and the bounce of the ball but there’s times when we’re piss poor and wouldn’t beat an XI off here. Even if Griff was in it and we all know how shit he is cos Matt Jackson said so

And what does Matt Jackson know about playing centre-half, eh?

Are we where we are because we are crap
or
are we just plain unlucky with our injuries.
Sounds to me like your friend is trying to lick your ring ;)
all teams know that at sometime during the season they will have injuries and suspensions and will plan for that. that is why teams have squads so when a couple of players get injured they can replace them like for like. martinez comment after the sunderland game was rediculous that we lost cos ramis got injured the week before. yes i know we dont have the biggest squad in the league and we dont have the luxuries of the big money clubs but we should be able to slot a player in when ones out. we are where we are because we havn’t won football games , simple. we play some good stuff at times but we lack the quality in the last third for me. second half last night was the best ive seen us play all season, but again it was too rushed and forced in the last third. we need to stard like last nights second half instead of giving teams two goals start and a bit more composure in front of goal. i’ve come away from the dw many times thinking yes we are crap but that could be the drink, sometimes we have been unlucky with decisions but we cant keep using that as an excuse, we have to make our own luck. hopefully we can kick on from last nights second half, we CAN do it when we want.
as I said before in all my time watching the tics I have never known our backline to be so decimated and now one of those that could be slotted in is injured as well we have Boyce,Ramis ,Alcaraz and lopez who should be back this weekend hopefully ,at times we have had to play untried players in them positions like Watson and Jones at times
I agree we should be able to slot a player in now and again but really have you ever known a injury crisis like this in one particular area of a team we should all hope that Golabat steps up to show what he can do I believe he played well against Stoke the other night and the reason that we are going after Scharner is because the situation as got that bad
We were very crap today. One of the worst displays ive seen this season. On a couple of positive notes, the warm welcome return of paul scharner – man of the match for me & at least we got a result despite playing crap.
We weren’t particularly crap – Southampton were surprisingly good. They were up for it. They challenged. They clearly had a game plan to close us down and not let us do our fancy stuff – and it worked. Almost to perfection.
We will learn from this. Players need to up their game. The onus is on them.
We didn’t play well (that’s not the same as “we were crap”), but got a point that we didn’t deserve. I have certainly seen us play a lot worse.
And to do those who booed DURING the game – get a life. Do you really think that helps???
