‘Ellery Hanley never got sent off in his life because he was so charming to the referee, but he’d kill somebody in a tackle.
‘I was lucky to be born into rugby league. It’s taught me a lot. And some of those values could actually help football. When I joined the Premier League Shareholders Group, I represented little Wigan and I was already known from a rugby league administration background. I wasn’t too sure what they were thinking about me.
‘There were some big hitters – Levy, Kenwright, Gill, Dein, Parry at the time. I didn’t contribute on a daily basis and kept my mouth shut. But as I gradually won their confidence, they put me on certain groups and elected me to represent them on the FA.
Didn’t stop anybody going to watch the home games with Maurice in the board room though did it.
Despise him always of course, we have reason too, but he was a member on our board for sometime. That in itself is an incredibly rude gesture to the supporters.
Folk should have boycotted when he was appointed, but all that hot air eh!
Totally agree RF, something should have been done as a protest. I have some sympathy for Benson now, a Whelan yes man who didn’t do much wrong but follow his orders, was treated far worse than the PNE Puff.
With all due respect Garswood,
Im sure we could spare a few minutes of the 90 abusing him!
I see this was met with the usual blustering hot air and apathy. There is no doubt in my mind that Wiganers are the world’s worst fans. Can’t even muster themselves to abuse their biggest hate figure when presented with an open opportunity to do so.
