Report on BBC ,Wigan Athletic condemn fans who have abused players on social media after the game against Portsmouth.Bit baffled ,why would anyone abuse their own players after we have just won ? It could be aimed the James McClean or more than likely Portsmouth fans giving abuse to Watmough and Naylor. Either way whoever is responsible are just cowards hiding behind anonymity. They would not have the balls to say it to them face to face .
29 August 2021 at 4:13 pm #193708I totally agree with you Phoenix. Unfortunately it only takes one person at a keyboard to do a whole lot of damage. The platforms should do more but just sit on their hands. Maybe companies who advertise should step up and apply some pressure onto Twitter, Facebook etc.
29 August 2021 at 5:50 pm #193709So what’s been said and to who?. If your on about Pompey fans having a dig at ex players calling them sh1t that’s not abuse that’s banter.
Let’s be careful here before we sterilise the game.29 August 2021 at 7:35 pm #193710I don’t know what’s been said but it’s on the BBC website and it’s also being reported that Wigan Athletic strongly condemn the abuse directed at a number of players on social media after the game on Saturday. I am all for a bit of banter but it seems this goes way beyond that.
29 August 2021 at 7:57 pm #193712Looks like it was the Portsmouth fans abusing Watmough and Naylor.Portsmouth have now issued a statement. As I say a bit of banter is fine but you have to draw the line at vile abuse aimed at players and their families.

30 August 2021 at 7:47 am #193716One of the abused was McLean. He has form for stoking up controversy, so its hardly surprising that he is a target.
30 August 2021 at 9:04 am #193717All’s I’ve heard is it was Pompey fans targeting 2 players. I’m not sure who and what was said, again, I can’t pass judgement.
My point is, if its abuse then its out of order, the problem is of late is, I see abuse slowly moving into the banter bracket.
Let’s be careful if fans are calling someone because he’s bald, fat, skinny then class it as abuse. It’s no more than you get in the boozer with your m8’s

The difference being if it’s in the pub and you take offence you can do something about it ,when it’s on social media these cowards can say anything they want to and they know nothing will happen .
