is it me or does the likes of Wigan today, the official site, vital and loads of other sites run really slow and fuck up your computer, all down to the ridiculous amount of pop up and video ads on there, why people bother I don’t know, vital is mental with pop ups, redirects and ads blowing up on screen.
Wigan today seem to love advertising fake news sites and the rest are just betting.
Rant over2 September 2017 at 3:13 pm #161762I have adblock on my PC & laptop. No adverts & popups on those sites.
https://adblockplus.org/2 September 2017 at 4:15 pm #161764I recommended ABP (Adblockplus) years ago on WEP, you can also install a adblocker on your mobile phone but not ABP.
I use CM Browser (Cheetah Mobile) on my phone from the Google play store, fast, reliable and ad free.
Fuck the EFL
2 September 2017 at 7:24 pm #161767I haven’t bothered with Vital for a long time now due to the ads freezing up the site, don’t know how those on there cope with it.
This site is fine and so is the Official site and supporters club. WEP is horrible, but like you say, if you’re bothered get an ad blocker.
In defence of some ads, you can get some good ones, I would never have found m an m Direct but for an ad on here :woohoo: Though I haven’t gone for the plenty of fish yet.2 September 2017 at 11:11 pm #161768As far as I can tell, the advertising on Wigan Today is partly native. Therefore you’ll see adverts for things that your computer has been used to click on to in the past (i.e. betting sites and fake news). I bought one shed once, but Wigan Today and others still think I’m looking for somewhere to store my rake..
As for ad blockers, obviously they’re very handy but such apps are the main reason sites are struggling to make digital pay in any meaningful way. You should even consider visiting some ads once a day to keep their money trickling into he sites you like.
Where I work, we’re getting a lot of advertisers complaining about people blocking their ads and instead incesting in paid content that looks like editorial but is only there because the advertiser wants a presence on our site. In my view, content like that runs even more risk of being classed as fake news.
4 September 2017 at 11:44 pm #161789Incesting?????
Surely that’s illegal4 September 2017 at 11:50 pm #161790Incesting?????
Surely that’s illegalLol. Although in Bolton it is a requirement.
7 September 2017 at 8:17 pm #161825We sometimes do it ourselves (article links) as the majority of the time we can fit it in to stuff we do anyway and so doesn’t detract from the site…
With regards to clicking the ads every now and then (don’t go overboard) – you won’t get any arguments from me :woohoo: , though I obviously can’t condone it….. though the money from it lessens the losses on the hosting and production of the paper fanzine.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
