Returned tonight with real fear we won’t seen a bag of wind kicked for maybe 12 months.
Social isolation could last that long , grim times and future ion the game and sport we know in very serious doubt.
Beyond the pale and very grim times21 March 2020 at 1:02 am #185842Future of society as we know it vince, when the tori’s are bailing companies out with wages u know something is wrong

21 March 2020 at 7:39 pm #185846If we cant complete this season then surely the only fair way would be to join this season and next together. We all start in the positions we are in now and with the same points. So Liverpool would kick off next season 20 odd points ahead of City and so on and so on. I cant see any other way of doing it without thousands of law suits.
21 March 2020 at 8:46 pm #185847Nuneaton, the problem I see with that is that there can’t be a “next season” unless this season has finished. A line has to drawn under this season one way or another. For example, if the “lockdown” we have continues then perhaps if it lasts until this time next year we could pick up where we left off. However, another problem – all those players out of contract in June – what do we do with them? If it goes until the summer, then I assume Liverpool and other clubs have players who are then out of contract after June – so how can we combine seasons if clubs have different squads available???
I have no idea, by the way, how this will pan out or what should be done. I’m simply looking at your proposal and picking holes in it – sorry about that!

No mate I agree and ideally this season has to end but we simply cannot just avoid this season and pretend it hasn’t happened. This period is unprecedented so we dont have a benchmark to look upon. Nobody knows how long this is going on for but when we go back to some kind of normality the integrity of all sport has to be intact. The only two certainties of this season is that Liverpool have won it and Bolton are going down. So many other issues must be settled and there is no escaping the fact that we are in a hell of a deep hole.

But that’s a problem, they’re not. Probable, but not certainties. Liverpool have lost 4 out of their last 6 games. Bolton can get to 50 points.
21 March 2020 at 11:47 pm #185851Can’t see any football till end of year. To suggest otherwise at this point is ridiculous.

Will you be having a bet on both then Goole. Liverpool in all probability dont even need another point and Bolton are already hoping those above them dont get any more points and it just isn’t happening. IF a ball is kicked again obviously.
23 March 2020 at 2:52 pm #185853I think this season in every sport needs to be classed as void. Hopefully by August we’ll be in the clear & can start again as a brand new season. It’s bad on every team where they currently are in their league positions. But human life has to come first I’m afraid.
24 March 2020 at 4:21 am #185854Gives Bolton another chance though but they would be starting on minus 12 again.
However the hubcappers wouldn’t be champions and Leeds would be staying down plus nob end would not get a go at the play offs.24 March 2020 at 4:43 pm #185858Forget Liverpool, Leeds Albion etc for a minute and let’s spare a thought for Barrow. Voted out at the expense of either Hereford or Wimbledon early 70s. Nobody knows better than Latics how hard it was to gain league status. It would be absolute heartbreak if they cannot finish the season and dont take their deserved place bank in league football after such a long absence.
24 March 2020 at 9:03 pm #185861Finish the current season and shorten the next one by scrapping the unneeded extended pre season and shelve the now very uninteresting EFL cup.
Have a ban of all international breaks next season and scrap next winters PL break also.
It is only fair and in proper and true spirit that the season is played out to a conclusion whenever that is able to take place regardless of what certain self serving club representatives may say.
If everybody stays indoors as requested by the government and health officials then maybe the season could recommence in June and be played to a conclusion by mid July once this awful time is over.
Then just start the new season in late august and play twice a week to clear congestion which scrapping those (mickey mouse) cups would do.
wishful thinking on the first day of this horrible lockdown but fook me, we all need something to look forward to at the moment even if all of the above seems very unlikely.24 March 2020 at 10:07 pm #185862Finish the current season and shorten the next one by scrapping the unneeded extended pre season and shelve the now very uninteresting EFL cup.

24 March 2020 at 10:38 pm #185863Yes I agree they could finally dispense with the play offs , surely the most unfair way of settling league promotions.
Was only brought in to restructure the leagues in the mid eighties and kept despite the unfairness of it to most observers initially.
Rubbishes then concept of being the best by way of league position over 40 plus matches and would be a good place to sack it.
That way the best teams get promoted and fairness all round. -
