I’ve not been prolific going away this season but I decided to make the trip to Shrewsbury and all’s I can say really is, we won which right now is all that counts.

Bar a collapse from us and a huge turnaround for Bristol Rovers or Burton were save.
      But,
That performance against a side who hadn’t won in their previous 14 matches was poor.
Now granted, this is a inherited side for Lowe but we lacked urgency energy slow build up loose passes and very little up front.
The recruitment of a forward or two has to be the first job Lowe needs to tackle and I just hope he’s actively looking as I type.

I personally think Lowe might have bit off more than he can chew. We lack that bit extra quality all over the park it’s scary. Normally with a Wigan side you could say “He’s too good for us” or, “He’ll go to the Prem” but after watching that Friday there’s not one good enough play in the Championship nevermind the Prem.

For large parts Shrewsbury were comfortably matching us but they also suffered from the lack power up front but for me, that’s our level right now mid to lower L1.

This summer will be the usual 15 out 15 in and 12 month re-building again and it looks like that this is the new us for the foreseeable future, lots of young unknown reserve players on loan and L2 journeymen.

I just hope and pray Danson backs Lowe because he needs funds releasing from previous sales otherwise we’re gonna be floating around aimlessly mid2lower (but surviving) in L1 for the next few good years.

I was hoping that after a few years of building after Danson took over we’d be pushing at least for a playoff spot but tbh that looks so far away you can never see that happening in the next 4-5 years.

Like I said it’s an inherited side I get so I’ll reserve judgement till at least till Jan 2026 then we’ll see.

You can’t argue with our defensive record of goals conceded. We are circa 5th best outside of the Premiership.
We know that we need strikers, and I’m sure that RL has got his wish list drawn up.
Then to back up the front men we desperately need a midfield general, in the mould of Graham Cavanagh.
Like you say CW, let’s hope Danson stumps up a reasonable transfer kitty.

Despite RL not setting the team on fire, I have enjoyed the games more so than the games under SM.
I think SM did a lot of damage to player’s confidence and didn’t allow them to showcase their real talents. Maybe that’s why Lang & Aasgaard jumped ship. When you listen RL’s interviews carefully, he states that he has given our players more freedom to make decisions and play progressively. Hence, it will take a little bit of time and persuasion to exploit this new freedom.
It’s a bit like the Indian elephant that’s been chained to the tree for years; then when you finally take the chain off, the elephant just stands there not knowing what to do.

Shaun Maloney had 5 windows and left us with the shitest team and style of play we have seen in years.
If Ryan Lowe can turn it around in 2 windows as you hope, then good luck to him, he’ll need it.
Up to now, at home at least, it now feels like football again after 2 years of absolute boredom.

I understand we’ve also had 2 ball playing midfielders for a large chunk of the season missing then Chambers and Goodwin (who never got going) but that’s were the owner should now step in.

Defence ?, yep we’ve sorted that and look solid. Robinson’s come in and put many doubters in check but we desperately need a forward.

There’s half a dozen who’s contracts are up who Lowe needs to make big decisions on, Robinson, S.Smith S.Sessegnon, McHugh, McManaman, Silko Thomas, then the burning question,
Have we made Taylor into the player we now cannot afford ??.

There’s a tough tough window coming Lowes way, I just hope we don’t Paul Cook it and load up with a sh*toad of over 30 journeymen who are looking for their final 2 year payday

Let’s be clear, Lang and Aasgaard “jumped ship” because of money. Fuck all to do with “showcasing their real talents”

“Feels like football again” – Really? It’s shit long ball crap and boring as fuck.

He’d better have the same success as Leam had in league one or else it won’t take long for you lot to turn on this manager like you have done with all the previous managers

You say Maloneys’s left us with the shitest team, but has he really?

This is a team of players who’s played this season

              Tickle

              Carragher/Sessegnon
              Hughes
              Kerr/Aimson
              Chambers

              Matt Smith
              Francois
              Jonny Smith
              Jordan Jones

              Aasgaard
              Taylor

Crippled by sales and injuries from getting this team on the pitch

I’d say this team would of challenged for play offs

I spoke with a couple of Preston fans I know and I asked them about Lowe.
They kinda didn’t slate him nor praise him.
They said, he’ll get you results but at Preston he blew hot and cold but they said one thing

“It won’t look pretty, alot of back forth left and right football”.

They both sat on the fence with Lowe saying, when he left they were unhappy about his departure but weren’t overly disappointed.

I keep saying it, I’ll hold judgement when were in 2026 and after a couple of transfer windows and when “his” players and style are all on show.
Lowe has to be given funds and time because this L1 is going to get super hard next year when a possible Hull Cardiff Luton Derby Plymouth come down

A result yes but could easily have been taking about a defeat had their late spell late in the game come to anything.
For me they had the better and more clear cut chances and but some resolute defending and excellent goalkeeping we could have been still biting our nails going into these last few games.
The first half was typical with bags of possession but zero cutting edge and all the faults of this season were there.
Shrewsbury already relegated basically handed the game on a plate but we were not good enough to take it during that first half.
We have forwards who seem to do anything but try to be a unit and what few chances we get we seem to squander due to poor decision making.
However a glimmer of hope with one chance that went well and won the game but then sort of allowed them to get get the upper hand.
I agree they have a lot of work to do in the summer and the club needs to work out where it wishes to go going forward.

The target is to stay up this season and let the manager sort the wheat from the chaff and bring in his own players in the summer.

I dont care what football we play, long ball, win ugly etc just stay up and start again.

The main issue is that Danson must fund the manager for decent experienced players not like the ones brought in by Maloney, starting with a couple of strikers and a couple of solid midfielders.

                    Fuck the EFL

When Danson took over he had the awful job of funding a big wage for the first 12 months till the window released them all.
That summer should have been were we built a side allowing Maloney to bring in a few 1/2 decent experienced players and integrate the younger lads into a side
This never happened and that’s were the problems started for Maloney.

Roll on soon to be year 3, new manager, and a summer transfer window nearly upon us. 15 players contracts or loans all up what will happen ?.

Well we can either go one of two ways:-
Bring in 3 or 4 experienced players and bring our own young lads up to the table
                      Or
Fill the squad up with unknown u20 lads on the cheap who’ve never played a competitive league football match and click our heels 3 times while wishing for promotion.

At the end of the day the choice lies solely in the hands of the owners, slight risk on a few decent experienced players or cheap n cheerful and give someone else’s youth the experience

Today’s 2nd half was exactly where we are. Absolutely nothing in final 3rd and just as poor in the middle. Adeeko was my mom…well for his 1st half anyway. Really down to summer recruitment because we are miles away from challenging top 10. A point won but Blackpool must be gutted they didn’t get a deserved 3pts purely for their desire. Rumours about last week linking us with Niall Ennis…ffs….really???…Please don’t waste any funding on him. Policy now of trying to get youth in to develop then hopefully cash in…..then fast get to Peterborough….21year old forward Malik Mothersille and 23 years midfielder Poku.12 goals each, young, quick both athletic and in the case of Mothersille a great finisher. Wouldn’t break bank and but I suppose that depends on how far Danson opens the vault door !!!!

It was a tale of 2 Half’s were Blackpool pinned us down for the vast majority of the 2nd half.

I’m not quite sure why never left at least one player nearer to the half way line. We basically had all 10 outfield players firmly behind the ball.
For me Taylor needed to remain on or tell Cze stay up just for the clearance out. This would have meant 2 Blackpool players would have to mark whoever but we preferred to try and soak up 45 minutes of pressure well till Owen Dale did his Sunday League tackle impression.

                          Back to us,
there’s the raw making of a side that seriously needs strengthening and there’s quite a few that need to be shown the door. We’re doing everything right at the back but that final 3rd is shockingly bad.

In all my years I don’t think I’ve ever seen us so lacking up front both on the pitch and on the bench. But to be pinned down for so long with little or no outlet was worrying.

I just hope Gelhardt and A.Robinson get sold then Danson has no excuse otherwise it’s soup kitchen time next year for players.

I’ve not a clue who and what we’ve got in the youth but we will have to fast track them next year that’s if Danson hides his wallet.

Will we make an attempt to sign Taylor ? I’ll say a big fat no simply because we’ve added value to the lad. This “We’ll make you money” on us developing other teams players needs to be cutback next season.

And Tickle ? I think that the last time we’ve seen him put a Latics shirt on at home

Went last night and boy that was a painfull watch. Imo no chance we can challenge for top 10 let alone play offs with this squad. Turning Asamoah into a goalscorer?…Give me a break….yes has pace but that’s it!Some talking about Lowe working with him during summer to do this….not a chance. Goalscorers have been doing it since kids so lets get real and track down 3 who have history. As previously stated all down to not replicating the recruitment shitshow from this season AND spending a little. 2 freaky goals in last 2 games and as usual solid defence kept us from losing both and make no mistake we didn’t deserve anything from either. I have never known a squad lacking so much in final 3rd. Thought Adeeko did well again particularly 1st half so hats off to him he’s certainly stepped up recently. How will we clear out some of these contracted players ?…No idea but it needs to be done as financially painful as it will be …..this is the result of recruiting on masse sub standard players.

Were clearly light years behind most sides in the attacking department. I just want to home in on Cze.

Here goes with tin hat on,
I personally think theres a player there in the making. Now lots will slate him and say not good enough but what do you base that on ?, 5 minutes here and there ?.
There’s talk he’s had off the field issues so I’ll have it a guess that his head hasn’t been in the best of places.

He needs a run of games and strengthening up then I’m sure he’ll bag a few goals for us.

Taylor ? he missed 3 glorious chances which highlights my thoughts that he’s not a forward. He does everything spot on up to the point he’s asked to bag a goal and he fluffs his lines.

Now don’t go off on one saying Cze’s not good enough, neither was Luke Robinson that was till the penny dropped and now he’s gradually making that left back position his own.

Cze needs games like Lang and he needs someone just up sides or behind him none of this loan striker hit the tall lad bollox it just won’t work. If Cze does get his chance and he’s helped up top I promise you now this lad will get us goals, we have to be patient because basically we have no other fookin choice.

As for those screaming out:- “We need a proven goal scorer” really ? so it’s just us??
Reality check guys FFS serious reality check, every club in Britain wants exactly the same thing.

Ok, so who? Who’d come to Wigan after say bagging say 15-20 the season before. Which proven goal scorer would come to Wigan right now on peanut dollar bills?.

Cze needs to be fast tracked like Tickle and Hughes were, thrown in regular into the deep end. If we can get some service to Cze in that final third (please don’t say from Owen Dale please) then Cze will come on leaps n bounds.

I’ve seen him a few times and he comes across as a fiery fooker and doesn’t mind getting stuck in but he’s not a loan striker type player hit the big guy up front, he’s a 100% finisher.

We have to utilise the next crop of young lads the likes of Tom Watson Luke Robinson Carragher plus add a couple of experienced players.

Not sure how much truths in it but Ledson from Preston might be signing which would be a good start in the middle.

The way I compare it is,
Lowe’s got to create 5 star Michelin style cuisine from yellow sticker end of isle food from Tesco’s. But in our case Lowe “HAS” to use our own ingredients whether we like it or not or whether their ready, they have to be given time on the field now and learn the hard way.

I just hope Lowe doesn’t Paul Cook it and wrap all the young lads in so much cotton wool you could roll them down Snowdon and they’d end up at the bottom unmarked.

This window is crucial, new manager, all the big earners gone and we need Danson to back Lowe. No good saying self sufficient sh!te. Were stripped back to the bare bones on and off the field it’s that far stripped back were to the skeleton. We need rebuilding first self sufficient later Mr Danson.
Dip into your billions and gamble have some fun, you can’t take it with you. Sometimes life’s about carefree risk and see were it gets you.

I bet if you asked Dave Whelan whats been your biggest achievement in your lifetime?, Whelan’s Supermarket ? JJB’s?, DW?? they won’t be top, lifting the FA Cup will no doubt be above any business venture.

                              Get it spent Danson

Stated previously Peterborough striker Mothersille would be on my list..fits our develop/ cash in profile 21 yrs. Yes would cost a fee but a player like him has serious sell on potential, very quick and a brilliant finisher. I know highly unlikely we’d be willing to invest but Peterborough have previous on selling players at not silly money. Just have to wait now for one of our most interesting summer windows.
