And people still can’t see what Whelan has done for us.
£250 + million income from the premier league has helped somewhat.Not when it gets swallowed by Premier League wages.
I got the opportunity to speak very briefly to DW last week. I didn’t thank him for the FA Cup or 8 years in the premier league or the new stadium or funding some of the most gifted players I’ve seen in a Wigan shirt or for being responsible for some incredible highs over the past decade and more, I thanked him for saving my club when it looked all but doomed. That’s the biggest thing Whelan’s done for me and whatever happens in the future I’ll be eternally grateful.

If you read the link you may see that just as much has been invested by previous owners in Hearts, the problem they have is they don’t get the income from the SLP/TV rights that we have had, and that is why they in dire straights.
Stop being so defensive not one WAFC fan disputes that without Whelan we would not have been on this journey.

Only for the TRUE Fans putting their hands in their pockets in the early 80’s, when the club was on the verge of “Going Under” (Who was there at the LIFELINE Meetings in the old Queens Hall and pledged money?)D.W. wouldn’t have had a club to save ;)and all they got was a certificate…

I disagree. There are many WAFC supporters who choose to turn a blind eye to the fact he saved the club as it gets in the way of their criticisms of him.
Although, I tend to think those who do so have a personal dislike for the man or simply don’t know anything about a pre-2004 Wigan Athletic.
And for the record I wasn’t accusing you of not giving Whelan credit. The word ‘you’ in my post could have been substituted for the word ‘one’.

Its everything to do with income, as I said 250 million plus from the premier league helps.
Imagine how we would have competed with the clubs that get massive income via gate and sponsorship without the premier league income, that is what Hearts and all other Scots clubs have to do to compete with Celtic, even Rangers could not manage it on 20k less gates per week than Celtic.
Its no coincidence that all the medium/small clubs in the Spanish and Italian leagues are on their arses.
