Ronnie stam according to reports suffered a broken leg last night. This is like a final destination film. Who”s gonna be next.

      Hopefully Gary Caldwell.

But in all seriousness we now have two fit experienced centre backs. 1 fit experienced right back and 0 experienced left backs. It will be a miracle if we get out of this hole.

      Lets all pray on Alcaraz.

Just when Swansea’s goalkeeper had been carried of, Wigan were reduced to ten men. Stam must have made the briefest appearance on record. And he was forced into the challenge by indecision over playing the ball out of defence.

I don’t know if Espinoza was meant to be playing at left back or LWB last night, but it was horrible to watch his uncertainty. Perhaps people will now have a greater respect for the way Figueroa and Beausejour have fitted into Martinez’ plans.

Injuries have limited Martinez’ choices – I hope we get some better news for Saturday.

It must be just me then.

I thought Espinoza was very good last night.

Some people need a reality check.

The error apart, bad as it was, I though Caldwell did OK considering he hadn’t played for weeks and is carrying a long term injury which is threating to end his career. He played a great ball through for McCarthy’s goal and had a good header saved which on another night would have gone in. But I suppose people need an “escape” goat and Gary provided it last night.

For those on here postulating who might still be with us next season I’m sure booing the team off at full-time will leave a lasting impression on those players and perhaps the manager who are currently debating their futures.

Paul Scharner putting his finger to his mouth on more than one occasion in the first half asking for the crowd to be less impatient was a poignant reminder of the struggle Martinez has had in trying to change the attitude of Wigan Athletic fans. Maybe we deserve to go down for having the audacity to try and play in that way when in reality they crave for the long ball percentage style football of Allardyce and Pullis.

My man of the match. But he’s definitely no left back

From Stam coming on and getting injured it was about 15 seconds….9 seconds from Robles playing out to the tackle, even by our standards of defensive injuries this season, that was just farcical and summed things up.

yes it was farcical but stam put his arms up, called for the ball, turned and didnt have a clue what to do with it
