No not the RL.
Why are we playing France tomorrow?
Seems pointless and looks like the second string aren’t even going to be playing with all the absentees
16 November 2010 at 10:35 pm #51150The FA trying to recoup the £798 million (slightly over budget) cost of the new Wembley Stadium. ;)
17 November 2010 at 12:43 am #51157its one of fifa.s free windows, and there are friendlies all around the globe totally agree its pointless but as much as i dislike the fa this aint their doing. tho why we should risk injuries to players for nothing games is lunacy.

Could have been worse, could have been Faroe Islands in Aberdeen. (Landgate and Griff, no, didn’t go, but managed to shift the tickets.)
17 November 2010 at 12:23 pm #51171Looks like you missed a cracker, Scotland’s reserves against the Faroe’s reserves.
Mind you, I wouldn’t have fancied the night bus all the way back from Aberdeen after that.
17 November 2010 at 12:53 pm #51173James McArthur has had a late call up, gives him a taster of what’s to come.
18 November 2010 at 11:46 am #51216It wasnt that pointless as it has shown us just how many of the England squad are not good enough when we come up against any half decent team
18 November 2010 at 12:30 pm #51228Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this the third international since the start of the season? And haven’t at least 2 of them been pointless games?
And on TV they listed about 3 or 4 other games that are in the pipeline, one being against Ghana. Oh, whoopy-do! I’m sure that will be REALLY beneficial…..
The whole ‘England Team’ thing bores the arse off me. England fans are never, ever happy. Never will be.
18 November 2010 at 12:48 pm #51229It wasnt that pointless as it has shown us just how many of the England squad are not good enough when we come up against any half decent teamIt would appear that since the World Cup and both teams respective awful displays, one team has moved forward and improved and the other has regressed somewhat !! One day the England team will predominantly consist of Championship players !
18 November 2010 at 5:49 pm #51236To be fair, there were very few 1st choice players out there for England last night for one reason or another so I aint reading too much into it
In a competitive situation I’d expect one or two of them could come in a fill a void but when you’re playign with only 1 of your recognised first choice defensive line, only 1 of your recognised first choice midfielders & none of your recognised first choice forwards then I’d fully expect us to get beat
You aint gonna be able to go to that many back up choices (& some of them are about 5th or 6th choice for their respective positions) & expect to get a decent result.
Even Spain would struggle on that score18 November 2010 at 5:59 pm #51238The thing that annoys me is that the media have been moaning about this pointless fixture for weeks and then slate the team for bweing absolutely pants in a match they weren’t even bothered about them playing.
I did like this reported exchange from last night, though:
Gerrard: Ref, we need another ball
Ref: Why, what’s wrong with this one?
Gerrard: The French are playing with it18 November 2010 at 7:05 pm #51244Cant remember the last time we played a friendly that was worthwhile, every game is teh same and gives the media something to have a go at. I pity the fools who go to watch the games…
18 November 2010 at 7:15 pm #51245I don’t pity them – its their own stupid faults for forking out hard earned cash to watch a friendly in the first place. Same goes for club friendlies too
Have to say I went through a phase of watching England around 1998-2001ish & can’t say I enjoyed any of the home games. The one I watched at Old Trafford had probably the best atmosphere (it was the Greece game with Beckham’s last minute free kick) but even that was pretty limp. The homes games I watched at Wembley were awful – surrounded by screaming kids & devoid of any atmosphere even in a game against Germany
The away games are a different kettle of fish mind & I’d recommend anyone to try it at least once. Piling through Copenhagen, Stockholm & Hamburg on the way to & from a game against Sweden stands out even if the game was bilge
