We started off very well, a lot of possession, and looked good going forward. It was all very positive. Then, as we did at Liverpool, we conceded a cheap goal. The overlapping run down our right side saw a cross put in for the unmarked Hernandez, who had made a decent run with a great piece of movement, and he was allowed to flick the ball home. Too easy, once again.
We had a couple of chances to equalise, but it just didn’t happen, and we went in one down at half time.

It was obvious that the next goal was crucial. Concede another, and it was game over, yet if we could equalise, then perhaps we could get a point from the game. But United upped it a gear or two, and it was only a matter of time, as they started to dominate the game more. We were caught out by a swift move that put Hernandez clean through on goal, and in fairness he finished well. Game over.
They got the two other goals as we seemed to lose composure, and it was 4-0, yet again.

Our best player? Ben Watson, by a mile. I thought McCarthy was taught a lesson today, by Scholes, Fletcher, and Carrick. How much of a moaner is Scholes? Never stopped.

Our main fault was not attacking them with enough pace in the second half. It was too slow and it made it easy for them to close us down. Overall, we were always going to be up for a hard game today, but I felt that to lose 4-0 was very harsh. They just opened us up too easily, but then again, they ARE the champions elect.

Personally, I’d sooner us beat Birmingham.

I’d sooner us beat Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Blackpool …. and get relegated.

Agree with almost all of that, Dave.

Other than his atrocious dead balls, Watson did very well in a role he is not used to but is clearly being asked to play

I thought we were a little unlucky to be behind at half time need to see the rooney incident again.
Second half they dominated from midfield and we were beaten by a much better team in the end. Why did we sign this sammon guy not even on the bench was he?

Teams at the bottom have made their teams stronger by signing decent players’ we struggle to put ball in the net most of the season’the writing on the wall, yet some favour the spanish one to Jewell. :violin:

For the record, Watson is of Championship class at best and his various roles for us have been can I say sub standard ! His corner taking is diabolical and his through balls very rarely reach their intended target ! Anyone who says he is a decent prem player doesn’t know football ! For the record I played at a fairly high level when I was younger and trust me any of you footy laymen , Ben Watson is cack !

Just watched the Rooney elbow on MOTD. It was evidently clear what he did and there was clear intent. I hope he gets the ban he deserves. He could have seriously injured McCarthy.

Steve Gohouri was atroucious today. Shockingly bad.

He couldn’t defend for toffee. He was lazy, barely breaking into a jog when getting back.

Alcaraz wasn’t much better. The whole defence was a muddle.

We will not stay up unless Bobby sorts out our defence.

It doesn’t matter how well we play football, how many good attacking players we have our how many goals we score when you defend as bad as we today we will always lose.

I’d put my Gran at right back before Steve on today’s showing.

All Bobbys signings  and yes rooney should have been Red carded!.

                        Nzogbia? Moses? Rodallega? (occassionally).

Phelan: “We can’t dispute the referee’s decision,” he said. “He’s kept the game flowing and we’re happy with that.”

Big up Utd. Models of fair play for all kids to aspire to.

Rooney staying on affected the game and we lose out. Now the problem with banning him is that he could potentially miss their trip to West Ham so they gain and we could lose out again. Lord Brooking will have it all nicely worked out.

Rooney wont get a ban as the ref saw the incident ! The matter is now closed ! Maybe McCarthy should have dropped like a sack of spuds clutching his face and rolling around in agony like one of theirs would have ! Even then it would have only been a yellow card !

To put a different spin on it the incident in the Aresnal game at home when Zog was sent off was that not the fourth official who alerted the ref to the incident and sent Zog off

The incident yesterday was on the half way line and I would think that the fourth official would have a good view off it as he lurks around the tunnell area

Then again inconsistant refereeing seems to be the problem at the moment
