Real Mallorca striker Aritz Aduriz is a £4 million target for Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez.
The Mirror says Martinez flew to his native Spain yesterday to watch the 28-year-old in Copa Del Rey action and hopes to bring him back to finalise a deal by the weekend.
Aduriz was Mallorca’s top scorer last season but wants to come to England while he is still at his peak – and he could be the missing finisher Martinez is seeking.

sorry but i would be surprised if this happens, he just doesnt fit the latics/whelan profile because of his age,
our policy ,or whelans to be more precise, is to get players young enough to develop them and make money on any resale – and this fellow at 28 years of age doesn’t meet that criteria.22 January 2010 at 9:59 am #19106Sometimes though loudmouth a few slip under that criteria, Scotland, Edman and Melchiot for example. Hopefully Whelan is giving Martinez more freedom than we think.

now i am not saying its a bad thing in fact it is a very good way to finance our future premiership status, and it puts us as a club in pole position when trying to attract young talent.22 January 2010 at 12:21 pm #19115Sometimes though loudmouth a few slip under that criteria, Scotland, Edman and Melchiot for example. Unless you are classing Edman and Melchiot as not recent??

22 January 2010 at 12:36 pm #19123Do not have an idea what you mean by that Loudmouth BUT it was a serious post. Are you classing Melchiot and Edman as not recently because it was under Martinez?
