Interested to see what perception people have of visiting away games. As a “for instance” my wife and I visted City on Saturday and were searched – bags searched and patted down – had our drink (bottle of cheap cola) confiscated and my wife was asked if she had a lighter on her – as a lifelong non-smoker.
I presume we fit the hooligan demographic – aged 61 and 57.
No City supporters seemed to get frisked. Bottles of cola were available in the ground at £2.50 and presumably any smokers would have their lighters confiscated, or were they looking for arsonists?
The problem for me was this was all done with a poor grace and no customer empathy. Seemed to be a box ticking exercise “just following the rules”.
I presume that City do not want repeat visits. Objective achieved – they won’t get any more of my money.

thats pretty much the story of every away ground in the league – i dont see the draconian measures taking place when i walk past the north stand at the DW – but thats what to expect at most away games -get used to it.

Cith have turned into big time charARSEHOLESlies,my son went last year with a few of his mates and took his flag which is a large one to say the least,( he had burnt his hand badley before he went) has he started to put the flag out a stward said you cant put that out its to big so they started to put it away and the steward walked away. 10 mins later my son got talking to another steward who said yeah put your flag out, as my son put the flag out 5 stewards came charging to him told him to put the flag away,he explained that the steward told him it was ok,to which he was told he wasnt putting it away fast enough (remember hes only got 1 hand because his other strapped up) then they grabbed him and his friend and threw them out, all this before ko.
My son came home after game and told me this,i e-mailed cith and they didnt denigh any of it and the reply i got to say the least was snotty and ignorant :angry-soapbox:

I remember years ago at Goodison in the FA Cup many Latics fans proudly taking their flags to wave on their hero,s only to be told the sticks would have to be removed leaving us all with just the material to wave and a great big pile of kindling behind the Park end. Another time at Torquay when they played on Saturday night i was nearly arrested for walking round with a traffic cone on my head. But the best away day for me has to be Pompey, again a Saturday night game and a 2-0 win to top a fantastic weekend away.

How come almost every away game I have been to we are constantly told to sit down by the stewards while the home fans happily stand. Yet when we are at home we still get told to sit down while the away fans happily stand ?? I was going to write to Arthur C Clark for some answers but then I realized he has been dead for years !!

palace yesterday set the example of how it should be. all the stewards havin a chat outside to us and asking our predictions and the likes, one of them even gave my mate some chips  and then inside the hospitality stayed the same way when i was around 30p short to get a pie and they was happy to let me off with that. then ofcourse they was all sound with us standing up and when someone complained he was told to move further along as there is plenty of seats and it would cause to much hassle if they were to get people to sit down.
WELL DONE CRYSTAL PALACE  enjoyed the whole day
one down side is matt jackson, he was in the stands last night but he refused to sign anything or take any pictures
