The backroomstaff and the Manager are a joke how can some who as only played at the lower level of foot ball tell any one how to play these players will never take notice of any of these three muppits in charge //// bob needs some one to help him out not a div 3 center forward and a ex manager who wasnt good enough for us in div 3 //// must be plenty who would love to do that sort of work SAT was the worst latics display ive seen in years no idea on the pitch no leader on of of the pitch and def no one on the side lines only a spanish fool with is arms folded got help us bob that was a joke
What the hell has the level Jones played at got to do with his coaching ability? He may well be a crap coach, I really don’t know as I don’t work for him, do you?
Why do people think that someone needs to have been a world class player to be a good coach / manager? Was Wenger any good as a player?
Jose Mourinho wasn’t exactly a top class player, and neither was Alex Ferguson. But they’ve become the greatest managers of their generations and they are pretty much incomparable.
Most of the best managers were below-average players, because they always had more knowledge of the game than actual ability.
I didn’t mention being happy, I’m just saying your argument about good backroom staff requiring at least a top flight career is impractical, and the opposite is usually the case.
The current crop just don’t have the experience, and we haven’t brought anybody in to remedy that. Kirkland hasn’t been the same since Spink left with Bruce. He’s been a manager in the top division long enough to build an experienced backroom, but I bet when he was starting out at Birmingham and the like he had to pay to bring a few of them in.
Can’t see how a new goalkeeper coach could improve Kirkland.
How can you play at any level of football, let alone the Premiership, with the kind of problems he has?
He might be a nice guy and loyal to Wigan, although the cynic in me would argue he’s only loyal because he wouldn’t get in any other Prem team, but he should have been replaced some time ago.

Didn’t you see how good kirkland was when bruce’s goalkeeper coach was here he seems to have gone down hill since this new goalkeeper coach has come in :?
Another pointless post. Think the Jose Mourinho comment kind of blows it out of the water.
Lets blame it on the backroom boys that the club lost 4-0 to Blackpool! You cant judge a season in one game. We were inconsistent last season too. However, people need to be realistic. We are fighting for our lives in a league we dont belong in with the worst crowds in the league. Get real!
We work a miracle every year by buying and selling to survive and eventually this remarkable run will end. Enjoy it while it lasts and remember where we came from. How we have managed to be a top 10 team with home crowds of 12k and Whelan almost balancing the books is amazing.
On the coaching staff bit , the playing ability of someone has got sod all to do with how they will fare as a manager or coach. Some of this countries greatest ever players have been total flops as managers , Charlton , Moore , Robson etc.
Jonesy & Barrow may not have played at the highest level but on the pitch they were both fearless.
I’d like to think Jonesy gives some of our current prima donnas the Terry Angus treatment from time to time.

If only it was directly related. That way Martinez, Jonesy & Barrow would be world class coaches
