Apparently he is the first palyer to ever come off the bench to score a penalty with his first kick.
He also bags the fastest goal scored by a substitute.FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
2 January 2012 at 3:33 pm #76723From the ref blowing to goal how long ? Bendtner scored in 1.8 secs from a corner !! Did Watson not hesitate/compose himself slightly when ref blew ?
2 January 2012 at 3:43 pm #76724My understanding is that play commences when he strikes the ball, not when the referee blows his whistle. When did the referee indicate that”Bendtner’s corner” could be taken – that won’t have been included in the 1.8 seconds. I may be wrong.
Edit: Found it –
Law 14 which deals with the penalty kick: “The ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forward”

When you consider that until recently he was the boo boys “favourite” then that took some doing. Brave call from Bob too – you can just imagine the reaction if he’d missed.
Well done Ben , balls of steel. goodpost
3 January 2012 at 3:32 am #76754Have to say I was peeking through my fingers when Martinez decided to use Ben based on his last miss and the Boselli penalty experience last season. I was also surprised the ref allowed the sub before the pen.
Thankfully Ben also confirmed how 5hite Boselli was – £6m yet he couldn’t even put the ball in the net from a spot kick.

Lionel Messi has missed three penalties in the last two seasons for Barcelona, did Watson confirm how shite he is as well?

He also bags the fastest goal scored by a substitute.John Aldridge replaced Peter Beardsley to come on and score a penalty in the 9-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace in September 1989.
He was signing for Real Sociedad the very next day so Dalglish brought him on to take the penalty for sentimental sake.
Not sure if that’s the only other one.
Sorry Jay.

Yes but John Aldridge always did that Liddelesque shimmy before striking the ball, that may have added that little bit of extra time after the refs whistle was blown.
Ben might still be in the record books. :P

I refer the honourable gentleman to Mr Garswoods reply earlier…….time starts/ball is in play…… when ball is kicked.
We now need to see who kicked it the fastest/hardest…….
3 January 2012 at 7:25 pm #76777Apparently Zico came off the bench to miss a penalty, so Ben must be better than him!!!?
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
