It would be an enormous step up for Marinez. The problems at Chelsea are quite different to those at Wigan.

Expectations are modest at Wigan, yet still he gets criticised. Expectations at Chelsea are enormous.

At Wigan he has to manage a small squad, at Chelsea it’s ridiculously big and full of super stars.

Now he has to think carefully over every purchase; at Chelsea they have to resist buying more players.

He would have to learn to manage a team that plays in Europe – with all the extra games, the travelling and the squad rotation.

I think Chelsea will go for a more experienced manager. But I do hope that they have to start looking this evening.
