      1) On November 1, eight red cards were dished outin the Premier League – to Philipp Degen, Jamie Carragher, Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, Carlos Cuellar, Kenwyne Jones, Radoslav Kovac, Geovanni and Jlloyd Samuel. Never before had eight players been sent off on the same day in the Premier League.

      2) Yossi Benayoun scored a hat-trick against Burnley and became the first player to score hat-tricksin the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

      3) Burnley won their first four home games- no side had previously been relegated from the Premier League having done so. The 1st team to beat Burnley at Turf Moor was WIGAN !

      4) Manchester United benefitted from four own goals in two games against Portsmouth and Aston Villa. James Collins’ mishap was the 10th own goal United had accrued. The previous Premier League record for an entire season was six !

      5) Chelsea became the first team since 1963 to score more than 100 goals in the top flightand broke their own Premier League record of 97 goals in a season.

        6) No team has ever scored seven goals (or more) twice in the same Premier League season before, let alone four times as Chelsea did.

        7) Peter Crouch became the 20th man in history to score 20 goals for Englandin the Wembley friendly against Egypt.

        8) Lenny Sowah came on as a substitute for Portsmouth against Blackburn to become the first Premier League player to have been born in the Premier League era. He was born on August 23, 1992 – eight days after the Premier League kicked off.

        9) Manyor Figueroa’s goal for Wigan against Stoke became the third longest range goalin Premier League history at 60.59 yards. Paul Robinson’s 84.74-yard free-kick for Tottenham against Watford in 2007 is by far the longest range goal ever in the Premier League.

        10) Manchester United and Liverpool were both knocked out of the FA Cupin the third round for the first time since 1958/59.

          11) Seventh-placed Aston Villa became the third highest-placed team to concede seven goalsin a Premier League game as they lost 7-1 at Stamford Bridge.

          12) Manchester United’s defeat to Bayern Munich ended their run of 17 unbeaten away gamesin the Champions League.

          13) Jose Mourinho became the third man to win the Champions League with two different clubs. The others are Ernst Happel (Feyenoord and Hamburg) and Ottmar Hitzfeld (Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich).

          14) Ryan Giggs became the 17th player to score 100 Premier League goals, but he needed 534 games to do it – more than the other 16.

          15) Arsenal took their goal tally to 29 in nine Premier League games, equalling the best tally from the first nine gamesof any team in any Premier League season – matching the 29 Arsenal themselves managed in 2004. Four of those goals came against non other than WIGAN !

            16) Portsmouth’s run of six consecutive losses was the worst start any club has madein Premier League history. No other team has lost all six of their opening games. You have to go back 26 years for the last time a team lost their opening six games in the top flight – Leicester in 1983/84.

            17) Jermain Defoe’s five-goal haul in that game matched Andy Cole’s five against Ipswich in 1994/95 and Alan Shearer’s five against Sheffield Wednesday in 1999/00. All three failed to finish those particular seasons as Premier League top scorer.

            18) Darren Bent’s goal against Arsenal meant he had scored against all of the “Big Four”in the same season. The last man to score against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United in a single Premier League season was former Bolton striker Michael Ricketts in 2001/02

            19) Fernando Torres scored his 50th Premier League goal in his 72nd Premier League game, making him the fourth fastest 50-goal man in the competition’s history.
