Messi is not a Flawed Genius as well like some of the past Greats have been Maradonna , Gazza and Best etc. Is Messi the Best of all time?. only when he does it for Argentina as well. until then i would say no and Say Pele still is.

i am not knocking zidane because he truly was one of the world greats -but quoting alot of the, european player and world player of the year awards he has won is not all its cracked up to be

they are awards voted for by mainly french journalists or ones with a strong french bias – many, many, times english premier league players have been by far the best but they have mainly ignored -even english based french players the french always never miss an opportunity to try and downgrade englands influence on football and at the same time prromote their own – platini is a prime example.

i personaly think platini at his height was every bit as good as zidane – but i do feel that messi is something very, very special – a player that only comes once in a generation – like pele, best or maradonna.

I failed to mention how my opinion on Zidane is based upon the modern era of footballer. Best player ever for me is Pele.

Zidane’s goal in Champs League final, two headers to win the 98′ World Cup and also helped his country win the European Championships. I have copied the following from Wiki: –

Leo Messi hasd a long way to go yet :D

Great resume for Zidane there but i don’t see a Dairy Crest Floodlit League winners Medal so in my eyes he does not count as one of the all time greats because of that glaring omission from his honours :P

Exactly mate a winners medal from them as well and he does not have it in his resume so i guess the poor bloke must lie a awake of a night tossing and turning beating himself up about that Freight rover trophy and mercantile credit shield winners medal along with the dairy crest floodlit league winners medal that are glaring ommisions from his football CV?

Of course when Pele , Maradona and Best played there was an element in football that sadly is no longer present in todays game. It was called tackling !!!

Todays non contact version of the sport doesn’t half make those 30 yard dribbles a lot easier. The way Messi rolls around the floor if a defender breathes heavily on him suggests that he wouldn’t have lasted long back in the day.

Of the modern breed he is however way above the rest. He showed last week that the preening ponce Ronaldo should have been made to pay good money to be on the same pitch as him.

Just got back from my hols ! Right ,where do I start ?……Retired..No I dont listen to media folk and the likes of Andy Townsend purring over Messi. It is an honest opinion that I have formed from when I have watched him play on TV and from the goals ratio facts that are there for all to see !
Seeing someone live once or maybe twice is no better than watching full live coverage with many different angles to scrutinise either ! I am 48 and have watched all the others and I just think that Messi is the real deal and when he has retired, if he carries on as he is now he will have a pretty big trophy cabinet ! I watched the full game of England v Germany in the 1970 World cup before I went on my hols and it was one of the crappest things I have ever witnessed ! Is it any wonder those Brazilians could waltz through the players like a hot knife through butter ! I was coming up 8 at the time of that game and probably thought it was great back in the day ( Well it was for me as Germany won ! ) but the style of footy then was dire ! All those who hanker for the ” Good old days ” you can stick that s h i t up ya arse !! Messi would have had a field day as would the likes of Henri et al from the modern era !
As for international honours, look at the strength of some of the sides that helped some of those mentioned on this thread to win international medals and honours ! Argentina at this present juncture are fairly poor but in time if they come good again then it really will be the skies the limit for Messi !
Just to reiterate, I hate the media !!! :angry-soapbox:
