3 names lead the pack ,holloway, phelan, jewell
2 December 2013 at 2:07 pm #124242Mike Phelan would be my choice, he must have learned a lot from working with the master.
These are nervous times, getting the right man in this time!
There’s that old saying about “don’t ask, you might not like what you get!” which may well not be lost on DW.
Steve Kean 80/1…from the frying pan and into the fire
2 December 2013 at 2:29 pm #124243Or the hold saying be careful what you wish for
David O’Leary 33/1
2 December 2013 at 3:39 pm #124245The way Fred Done (Man Utd supporter with connections) has re-arranged his book and put Phelan in as favourite would suggest to me that it’s his if he wants it.
It would be a coup in Whelan’s eyes, though he could have had McClaren, Mulansteen, Phelan the first time round if he’d not been so tight fisted, instead we’re 6 months behind schedule. We could still end up with Jewell back.
2 December 2013 at 4:16 pm #124250I have a very open mind on this but i wold be a bit wary of Mike Phelan. I think some of his recent comments – like his assertion that he was basically the manager in the last few seasons of SAF’s reign – have bordered on the arrogant. He hasn’t done anything to prove that he has what it takes. Not saying he hasn’t, I’m just not convinced.
2 December 2013 at 4:32 pm #124251Can see us getting jewell
2 December 2013 at 4:34 pm #124252I don’t think that he’s been being arrogant, I just think that he is trying to sell himself as a manager to other clubs.
I read one interview where he does mention being manager at United for the last 5 years in all but name, but in the same interview he also hints that he feels he is getting overlooked for some jobs coz he got institutionalised at United & he was just Ferguson’s helper – I think his “manager” comment was more a case of him trying to say he did a lot more at United than just do what Ferguson told him to do in the hope that someone will take a gamble on him2 December 2013 at 4:39 pm #124253I don’t think that he’s been being arrogant, I just think that he is trying to sell himself as a manager to other clubs.

Jewell though, for me ;)
2 December 2013 at 4:52 pm #124254At least if we got Jewell back our manager would be a bit tubbier than our centre forward – LOL
2 December 2013 at 4:55 pm #124255lets be honest
with the quality of players already at manure even griff could manage them
has for jewell hope he keeps away , already had one guy who came back to manage and jumped ship and couldn’t care one jot about the 2hat now
lets remember jewell for what he did and respect it,and not go the 2hat’s way2 December 2013 at 5:56 pm #124260lets be honest

I think Fergie will have put a good word in for Phelan and DW will go for him purely because other managers will more than likely be wanting a 18 month 2 year contracts were as Phelan, I guess would be offered a till the end of the season contract to prove he’s worthy of a contract so it will suit both parties. Throw in Scholes and I think it’s the perfect choice.
I just hope chief scout “dib dib McGinley” goes as well.

3 December 2013 at 12:22 pm #124294Who’s Graham Anthony when he’s at home?Born in South Shields, Anthony was a trainee at Sheffield United but failed to make the breakthrough into the first team squad, making only three league appearances as a substitute.[1] After brief spells at Swindon Town and Plymouth Argyle he settled at Carlisle United where he played regularly for three seasons.[1]
He subsequently dropped into non-league football before retiring some time after 2006 to run a guest house in Cumbria.[1]He runs a B&B so he’s in with a chance
