To be honest, The Egg, a bit of give and take is all that is required. However, the arrogance of some ( but not all ) of the rugby lot on RLfans.com is beyond belief.

Latics have already given ground by not requesting a home fixture on the opening day, to expect us to play more or less every game away from home until the end of September because Wigan Warriors might have a play off fixture ( might being a key word ) is not on at all, you only have to look at our away form last season to see what a disadvantage Latics would be at.

There are years and years of precedent where Latics and the rugby are concerned, mostly Latics giving way e.g. we only played one home fixture on Boxing Day throughout the 90s to accommodate the Rugby v Saints.

I know the RL lot will say that their play off games are more important but then there were, what 8000 at the Castleford play off game last season compared to 20000 possibly at a Wigan v Sunderland game.

And of course football is not as fluid as rugby: Sunderland fans will have to travel further, may have booked hotel and it’s less likely that both set of fans can walk up and pay on the day.

The revenue through the gate and for TV rights dwarves probably ten times over what an RL play off game would bring in.

Contrary to what some people on RL have been saying about me [big wave to you all] I am not so anti-RL. I merely like pointing out the small minded ness of many RL fans, after all the drivel they write about WAFC fans, a team and sport they care not to care for

There’s not too much I have said in the above that is even worthy of debate, it is mostly fact. Unfortunately, what is called passion by a lot of RL fans in Wigan, looks suspiciously like hypocrisy to the outside world for all the reasons i have stated above.

I only wish there were more people like you with a foot in both camps to try and add a sense of realism to the debate.

Anyone with a rational mind would not expect a game in the biggest league in the world to be moved for a regional play off which will not even be confirmed as a fixture until the week before but this lot aren’t rational.

It’s all part of the deal of sharing grounds and a town I’m afraid and both clubs have had to give ground over the years

Latics moving to the Sunday would be the ideal situation or indeed Wigan playing Sunday night rather than Friday

Wigan Athletic have a game on 11 September and there’s no way:

        a. They should be expected to move it.
        b. They should even be asked to move it.

As has been pointed out on the RL Board by many voices of reason, its a rugby problem and one that can be quite simply solved by playing at 6pm on Sunday 12 September. That way everyone is kept happy. The only potential spoilers to this arrangement are:

        a. Sky TV, who may dictate that Wigan play on Friday night.
        b. Dave Whelan who declares the DW “unavailable”.

Frankly, I expect Wigan v whoever to play at 6pm on 12 Sep. The last time there was a clash it was because the Warriors snuck into a position that got a somewhat unexpected home tie in the playoffs after a good end of season run and only had 5 days’ notice of a fixture. However, as Egg says, the Warriors could well have a top 2 spot guaranteed by the end of this month – its then up to the club to engage with Sky and DW to ensure that they play their home tie at home.

Those neanderthals on RL Fans who are saying Latics should be made to play all their games away are wrong. Plain and simple. Just as wrong as the neanderthals on here who claim that the Warriors should be forced to play their home games at Leigh/Widnes/Bolton etc.

Its about give and take on both sides and hopefully the weekend of 11/12 September will show just that.

The Blackpool game may yet be rearranged and played at Latics.

Regarding the rugby play-off games these tend to have lower crowds than regular season games as season ticket holders need to buy tickets.

Ayup, an outbreak of reasoned Latics/Warriors debate!

There’s chances yet for this forum and the town.
