“Everton have a great fan base, even bigger than Wigan’s”.
WTF does that mean???
28 May 2013 at 6:57 pm #114708It was only last week he was saying Everton aren’t a big club
28 May 2013 at 7:57 pm #114736so put the above two posts together and what do you get:
Whelan’s pissed off that Bob’s going to Everton after saying that Everton’s not big enough.
So, he compares Everton’s fan base to ours, it’s not exactly a flattering comparison is it?
Whelan’s a crafty bugger!
28 May 2013 at 8:04 pm #114739I think in the glare of the media it can sometimes be forgotten that this is a fella walking towards no. 80’s door…
If it was your grandad sat at the christmas table you would hear what he says but think I know what he means if that makes sense.
Lets not over analyse everything he says ;)
28 May 2013 at 8:25 pm #114745after watching whelan on sky i feel whelan is lying and not telling us the truth
bob probably asked for money to help keep the squad intact which whelan wouldn’t do
that is more like lt ;)28 May 2013 at 9:50 pm #114782Heard him on the radio saying that he ‘recommended’ Everton as great club to go
to. A 100% U turn on his claims they weren’t a big enough club. He can’t lie straight in bed this chap
or he’s senile….or both.I suppose we shouldn’t mistake his total lack of any academic intelligence, for outright stupidity (as many do)…. His ruthlessness and low animal cunning have taken him 200 million dabs in front of me for a start I expect that those suggesting that the required investment I the academy and training facilities were no longer in place are on the money. However he thought he had 60 million coming in next year and now he hasn’t ….so maybe we just aren’t in a position to keep that ‘promise’ ?
28 May 2013 at 9:57 pm #114783Could it be that Whelan won’t pay out on facilities until were back in the Premier League, and this is all bare face from Whelan?? I doubt he’s likely to come out and say “were to broke to afford it”. I can’t see the sense in Martinez claiming he can’t get us out the championship but he can improve Everton.
I may well be missing the point but something does not seem right.

I’ve said all along that I think it is about the facilities. I know the development plans were to be put on hold if we got relegated (fair enough, no point in having a premier league academy if you’re not in the premier league; lots of current premier league clubs still don’t have one) and maybe Martinez was pressuring Whelan to press on regardless and he has perhaps said no.
But, as with everybody on this board who claims to know what they are talking about, I am merely speculating.
28 May 2013 at 10:27 pm #114787As am I.
I am one that fully expecting him to stay so I am still in shock tbh. The lack of communication coming from Martinez at the minute though is something I did not expect (Perhaps I expect to much?). Also the fact that Meulensteen is odd’s on so quickly. Things don’t seem right.

I dont see how Martinez can take Everton any other way than lower in the Prem than last season.Utd,City, Chelsea,Spurs ,Arsenal and Liverpool will all spend big and improve so where the hell does Everton fit in?.I believe this will be a disasterous move for Martinez and will end in tears. The big difference between Wigan fans and Everton fans is that we hope to get league results and good runs in cup games whereas Everton fans demand and expect it.People are only seeing that he won the FA Cup which is the greatest thing to ever happen to this club but are not seeing,
The 9-1 defeat at Spurs
The 8-0 defeat at Chelsea
Notts County fiasco
Swindon and Bradford humiliations
Plus quite a few more.At Wigan we know our limitations and understood the restraints he worked under so we tolerated the bad results.Everton fans wont.Wigan Athletic and Roberto Martinez was a good fit and in Mr Whelan he had license to have huge mishaps without fear for his job now he no longer will have.Im hurt he has run as soon as we went down but he goes with my best wishes, he is going to need them :(
28 May 2013 at 10:51 pm #114798I can’t do anything but worry at the moment. That’s the darkside of me coming out, but unless there is some cunning plan of Whelan’s hid well and truly under his sleeve then I fear that the next appointment will be a rushed one. Although some are calling for Jones to replace Martinez in the name of consistency, don’t forget what happened when Jewell left and we ended up with Hutchings.
