Shouldnt be any. Satdy is about football. Squads are all big enough to let players go to internationals and still let games go ahead. If no competetive games then we should be playing friendlies.
6 October 2009 at 1:16 pm #10255I would hardly call our squad big enough

Off on Sunday and Monday, fly out on Tuesday night, play Wednesday night, fly home Wednesday night after the match, off Thursday, back in training on Friday morning, travel to match on Friday night/Saturday morning, and repeat the following week.
We did that for all international matches once over, and guess what, we were more successfull.
So what if players are flying all over the world tp play for their own countries, if it affects their club, get shut and get more home grown players in.
Can anyone, hand on heart say that travelling to S America ever affected Valencias performances, he was just as sh*t if he travelled on a bus to Bolton or Blackburn as he was if he travelled on a plane to Brazil or Bolivia .6 October 2009 at 4:17 pm #10266Don’t think we should be playing friendlies, what would be the point in that? I agree with Horc though, play the internationals in midweek then back to league matches the following weakend. You can bet that they wont be travelling economy class, what is so hard about flying on a plane, Give me 40 grand a weak and i would feckin walk to Brazil or Bolivia and back on time.

15 October 2009 at 3:56 pm #10633Well, I see the International get together really helped Englands players play to their true potential yet again.
Last saturdays result in the Ukraine just goes to show that it makes no difference at all if the squad get together a week before of not.
Scrap the blank saturdays now, and just play the matches during the week, we can’t play any worse.
And before any do gooder says ‘we won last night’ well yes, you are right, but it was a midweek fixture anyway, which again prooves my point further.
